NCC vs Stony Brook

U.S.A. New York

Hey - I'm new to the forum and have a few questions.

I'm applying to both the NCC ADN program and the Accelerated BSN at Stony Brook. I'll have all my prereqs & courses done in a month (so I'll only need the Nursing courses). My GPA is about a 3.6 - am I crazy to think that I might get into the Stony Brook program?? How about NCC? Does everyone who applies have a 4.0? I keep hearing that there are 1200 applicants for 150 spots at NCC, but don't know anything about the stats at Stony Brook.

I think I'm babbling, but any insight is very much appreciated!

THANKS!!

Are you applying for the Spring 09 term in ncc? I dont know much about Stony Brook. I went application crazy recently and applied to 5 schools. I got into 2 so far! Still waiting to hear from the others, my advice to you is to first get accepted into either one then weigh the pros and cons. Whats more convenient to you, location wise, financial wise, etc etc. Good luck! Nothing is impossible, 3.6 depending on how many credits you have sounds good to me. If you have 3.6 and 16 credits versus someone with a 3.4 and 38 credits, I think they will give the 3.4 the seat. -I think-

Thanks! I already have a Bachelor degree in another field, plus all the required courses (once I finish Med Micro this summer). I'm crossing my fingers that the fact that I have everything except the required 34 nursing credits and a decent GPA, will get me into the Spring '09 program at NCC.

The accelerated program at Stony Brook is 69 credits in 1 year!!! While I'd finish 6 months sooner with a BSN...I definitely wouldn't be able to work or have any type of a life - so of course that's always a factor. We'll see - my first choice is NCC - it's closer, cheaper and from what my "nurse" friends tell me the differential $$ they get for having their BSN is a joke!

GOOD LUCK to you too - maybe we'll end up in the same program...you never know!

I can only speak on behalf of NCC, as I am a current student there, and it's a tough but very good program. I got in with a 3.79 or a 3.83, I can't remember what my GPA was that semester. Spring is harder to get into than fall, because spring is a much smaller class (30-50 spring students vs. 100-150 fall students)
