Nassau Community College

I have applied to Nassau Community College's Nursing Program for the third and final time. I have been declined two other times and if I get denied a third time I will not apply again. It is getting a little embarrassing that I keep on getting declined.

Their lose is another school's gain...

oldcatlady,

Thanks for your kind words. It is awesome to be able to do this. I'm not sure if I would use the word "awesome" my first day at NCC, when I was 42 sitting in Sociology surrounded by 18 years olds that thought I was either the teacher or somone's mother making sure they showed up at class!

It's been a great trip, though, and I'm very thankful to my husband and boys for their love and support thru all of this. Thanks for all of the back-and-forth notes, too. I'm so happy you got into Farmingdale. I'm keeping my fingers, toes and eyelids crossed that you get into NCC as well.

Good for you, doing what you want now .....believe me, it's the way to go!

i know its hard with these schools. good luck and just go whereever anyone takes you.

ok now I can legitimately post on this thread haha. Received my letter today from NCC stating I was "tentatively accepted pending an interview." Does anyone have any information on this interview thing? My interview is scheduled for May 18th at 11:00am. Anyone get a letter or know anything?!?!

Congrats Oldcatlady! The interview is really nothing to worry about. Its a group thing, they have you write a short essay, some simple vocab. and a short interview (like 1 minute) they refer people to the writing lab who have real difficulties. You are in! You are going to love it!!!

So is it basically a sure thing at this stage? What do you wear to this thing lol? Could you tell me which hospitals NCC uses. I live in Eastern Nassau County so I am not sure if its better to just stay with Farmingdale but the schedules are better at NCC. Ahh so much to think about.. thanks radmom!

business casual is good to wear, although there wree some people wearing jeans, some suit and tie.. this semester the 101 group was in plainview and huntington, although it doesnt mean that is what they will have for 101 next semester. the 105 group will be in Franklin and Glen Cove. So it looks like they try to do a north shore and a south shore or east and west.. your first semester, they choose the hospital for you -buy you can switch with someone if you need to and if you can find someone willing to switch.

Are you doing nights or day?

I also got in!! After 1 year of hard working of taking prerequisites and im finally going to start my nursing career. Only school im waiting for is Suffolk Community College. Which brings me to a question. Which is a better school? I know both are great Universities but which one would benefit me more as a RN(such as getting a job, internship after me 1 year etc). The cost on both schools are almost the same and the distance i really dont mind. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Congrats to all who got into Nassau!:yeah:

thanks radmom,

I am doing the day program. At this point I am leaning towards Farmingdale. However, I missed the orientation for Farmingdale because of a death in the family I feel so out of the loops. I still have so many questions even after going to the school and making my schedule. I feel like if I go to NCC I'll be on the same level as everyone because I will be able to make the orientation.

But the location of Farmingdale and the hospital I chose are much closer to where I live.

I graduated in 1993 as an LPN. Started going back in 2007 part time for pre reques I challenged the RN program and now one semester to go.I work and have a family and iam inthe Program full time ...DO YOU WANT IT THAT BAD?, YOU WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES..NO EXCUSES THERE ARE OTHER OPTIONS IT IS VERY COMPETATIVE..I SEE SO MANY APPLICANTS COMING IN, ITS CRAZY.. FYI SEND A CARD TO THANK THEM FOR THE INTERVIEW AND THEM NO JUST HOW BAD YOU WANT IT.. THE THANK YOU CARD HAND WRITTEN IS A CHARM.

haha the interview isnt that serious, you could send a thank you card but you sit with 3 random people ...one says hi, one says you need this class by 2011, one says heres your registestration card, go register

they dont even ask some people anything, its really like advisement ..best way to describe it

they want you to acknowledge you have to take so and so classes by so and so time

you have an essay

vocabulary terms ..define temperature, is a work I had lol

they havent turned anyone away, even if they didnt know the vocabulary

ummmm i think that covers it

oh yeah think about it this way

\

they have 150 applicants right? they have to interview all 150 before they interview the people that are accepted for the evening program ON THE SAME DAY

you do the math ..or not, nurses are great at science. .not so much at math lol

Its official I got into ncc nursing program. I know about the interview. My question is what topics do they ask you to write about in the essay. If I could get some specifics that would be great. Thanks in advance.
