Hunter vs Molloy

  1. I applied to about 6 different schools for nursing and I decided that money is my number one factor. I don't qualify for grants as this will be my second degree and in this economy, my credit is bad, so I will be paying out of pocket. Hunter and Molloy are the cheapest options for me (Adelphi in 3rd place).

So keeping that in mind, which is a better program? Hunter is half the price of Molloy, BUT I applied to Hunter college, but not to actual school of nursing (they have a requirement where you have to be enrolled first). SO that means that I will have a year of prereqs and then apply for their actual nursing program. There's no guarantee I will get in. On the other hand, if I'm accepted to Molloy, I am already in the nursing program so don't have to worry about that part. Both programs should take me about 3 years to complete, but it's $4k/semester at Hunter vs $9k at Molloy.

If I get accepted to both programs, which one should I go for? Anyone knows anything about Hunter nursing program admission requirements? My overall GPA from the other school I attended is 3.39. I'm not sure if at the point of application to the nursing program Hunter looks at this entire GPA or at the GPA of the courses they agree to transfer + the courses I take at Hunter. In that case, my GPA should rise to well over 3.5 (my gen ed courses were almost all As, I got screwed by finance courses for my previous degree). I'm just afraid of putting all my eggs in one basket. Help!

Well, I would not count on hunter. I dont like Molly. And BTW, Adelphi is cheaper than Molloy. There is a satellite campus of Adelphi in the Manhattan which is definitely cheaper than Molloy.

What don't you like about Molloy?

I thought Adelphi was $12k/semester vs $9k at Molloy? I'm not sure about Manhattan campus because it seems to have a part-time program that I'm not really interested in.

Actually. its fulltime. in the evening. Classes begin at 5 and 6pm to about 10pm and the tuition is about 8-9 thousand if am not mistaken.

I've heard good things about Molloy so I think if it came down to Hunter vs. Molloy go with Molloy because Hunter is overcrowded and have about 600 students trying to get into about 70 or 80 seats. I applied for Hunter, got rejected by them and just went to a private university where the competition isn't on the level of CUNY's (because of their cheap tuition). The GPA for Hunter on average was about 3.5 or higher. My friend also go rejected from Hunter's nursing program because her GPA was 3.64 and the person ahead of her for the final spot had a 3.69
