hi, im first year student at hunter college and hopefully will be going to the nursing school. Im just wondering if anyone has experience with the admissions process for the nursing school. I heard its really competitive and you need at least a 2.5 ... i have a 3.3 so far ... i heard its based on GPA and a test.. im really interested in any statistics on acceptance rates etc. ... thanx !! :)

I spoke to someone at Hunter a while back and was told that each year they accept 80 people into their nursing program.

When pressed, the woman i spoke with said that they routinely get over 200 applicants for these 80 slots.

Hope that is helpful. Very best of luck to you!

When I was there, I was told it was 66 slots. Needless to say I had to go elsewhere. Keep your grades high and good luck.

HI, I've been accepted to Hunter as a Pre-Clinical Nursing student, but I haven't decided on schools yet. I was wondering if you could tell me what you like and dislike about Hunter so far. Thanks!

Hi: I am also interested in Hunter's RN-BSN program. I already sent my application and am currently waiting for a response. I have a question.......... Is it easier to get accepted into the RN Pathway program than the Generic pathway since your already an RN?

{Confused}

I know that this is so late to reply to, but -

Is it true that you have to be a hunter student to get into their nursing program?

You can't be a transfer student from another state who's finished basics/prerequisites, who is hopingto finish a BSN in Hunter? :/ Please help!

Matriculation at Hunter College for at least one semester is required before one can apply for admission to the Hunter-Bellevue undergraduate program.

Ari RN, I'm in the same situation right now, would you please tell me what happened to your application and your study in Hunter? Thanks

Hi I recently graduated from Hunter's school of nursing. The program is very competitive. My class had 100 students. They look at your G.PA and your score on the NLN preentrance exam. Although I think I started to hear rumors about an interview but I doubt that will happen. The average GPA for my class was probably a 3.5. So my advice is to keep your GPA up and prepare well for the NLN and you will get in. Also the generic program is only for students without a RN license and you have to attend hunter for at least 1 semester before applying to the nursing school. If you have a license you have to apply to the RN-BSN program. Good luck guys!! (P.S. It is not as easy to find jobs as they make you think. So keep your making connections throughout nursing school and doing an summer externship helps, hopefully things will change by the time you graduate!!

I know this thread is geared more toward the generic pathway. But I just got accepted as a pre-nursing student into Hunter for the spring semester. I have a bachelor's degree so I am applying to their accelerated BSN program.

I am wondering if anyone knows anyone that is in it now or has graduated from their accelerated program?

It looks like one of my English classes didnt transfer in that I need, do you know if Hunter will let me still apply to their program if I have a course in progress that will be completed by the start of the program?

Ahh I am so nervous and anxious.

@goofina, they should accept you (assuming that your GPA and NLN score are good) even if you are taking a course-in-progress. Make sure you complete all of your Pluralism and Diversity and Writing-Intensive requirements (and other GERs) before admission into the program.

@lovelyanne, make sure that even if you take one course before applying to Hunter (yes you need to be matriculated for one semester prior to applying) that you do really well on it. I heard this helps your GPA immensely.

@ARI RN, their RN-Pathway program is pretty good. Be prepared for the pathophysiology and research courses if you haven't taken them already.

The RN-BSN program at Hunter is CLOSED until Fall 2012. They are not accepting applications until then. Does anybody know why????
