First job interview in NYC as a New Graduate Nurse?

I went to the website and found out who the nursing recruiter is and their email address and phone number then I sent my resume directly to that email address, I also did a follow-up call after a few days after sending my resume. It seems like it is hard for a lot of new graduates in the NY/NJ area to find jobs. Don't hesitate to look into hospitals in Long Island, if feasible.

At first they said they were still processing my info, and then they said they were still figuring out how many new grad spots they had, and then finally they just gave me an appointment. The interview with nurse recruitment led to an interview with the nurse manager of a unit, and voilà! I had a job. Don't be afraid to be persistent, and don't expect the hospitals to get back to you first.

There is a lot of competition right now in the City with hundreds of people passing the NCLEX.

Follow-up with the recruiters, be open to working in areas of medicine that you might not have considered. Be flexible about work shifts.

A recruiter recently told me that there is no nursing shortage in NYC for new grads.

I kept an open mind, was flexible about hours, and I got a job.

LilyRose, thank you so much for your encouragement. I sent my applications to about ten hospitals and received only one invitation for an information session :)...

Update!

I went to an interview, they offered me a night position in mother/baby. I dont fit well with nights, so' I said: I had to think about it :S! After two weeks I realized it was really worth it, because it meant experience in the area that i love. (It took me TWO wks!? :S)

I called back to accept the night position, thank God they said yes, went with all my paperwork and there they said they were going to put me on days! I'm almost done with the hiring process and very excited to start!

To get the interview, be persistent, call directly, and if possible go to career fairs!

When you go get offered a position:

Be flexible,and balance it out. If its an area you love, take it. Dont take the chance to lose a position like I did :S!

On the other hand, always ask for what you want and don't settle for less. You need a job, but the hospital also needs you! It goes both ways.

I have been rearched for a RN job for a new graduate for 1 month, but only got 1 interview, but didnt get the job as ER nurse, :cry: , most of hospital don't hire new graduate right now, if anyone here know any job website is good for a new graduate in new york or any recommendation. thank you so much
