Thanks...Downstate is good so far. I am taking nine credits (three classes). Four credits in the first eight weeks and five in the second eight weeks of fall semester. All classes are meeting once a week, Tuesday. Two classes are hybrid and one is online. You have to take and passed NACE II RN Exams (MedSurg, Peds, OB, and Psych) prior receiving 27 credits which can be applied toward your BS credits. These NACE II RN exams must be completed prior the third/last semester. Hope these info help. Let me know if you need more info.

hey, I'm applying to their program for next year. Your GPA is pretty high though. I have a 3.34 and I was wondering if the average GPA is that high, I know it says 2.7 as the minimum but that also seems kind of low. Any info would be helpful.

Well, I don't know exactly their "actual" average GPA. But, I will still encourage you to apply for it. When I was in the process of applying Downstate last year, I also applied at Hunter and Rutgers (full online).

Btw, have you finished your ADN?

I am applying now so sorry I just found this link again I'm trying to get some info. I will be graduating with an ADN in May and already have a Bachelor's in another field (nutrition). My GPA is a 3.35 right now. Do you have any idea what other students' GPA were in the program? Also, I haven't heard anything from downstate, I had to mail in my app fee because of "technical difficulties" which has yet to be cashed, but it says "Screening in Process" under my application so does that mean they have everything? I tracked it so I know it got there. The due date is tomorrow. This whole process is nerve racking and exciting!

Hey guys, been busy for this past year. Between new job as a staff RN at one of NYC city hospital and finishing up my BS in Nursing at Downstate, have taken up most of my free-time. As you guys know that as as new grad, learning the nursing profession is tough and challenging; however, at this point of my career (one year already :)), I should say I think I am comfortably with my role as a nurse. Also, I have graduated from Downstate, so I can add ..., BS, RN." after my name... Anyway, I have an interview with another hospital coming up soon...so please wish me luck.

If you have any questions about RN to BS at Downstate or any general advice on how to tackle the floor as a new grad...please post a comment here and I will try to get back to you ASAP.

I also am planning to attend Downstate's RN-BSN program for Fall 2015 and I am graduating from a CUNY community college with my ADN. How long did it take for you to finish your degree at Downstate? Can it be done in one year?

Also, would you share how you landed your first job? Did listing your enrollment in a RN-BSN program help? Thanks for your help in advance.

Thanks for the update. Its good to hear that you are comfortable as a nurse. I got into Downstate. Already completed the first semester. I know that I am late. Hope your interview went well. Do you still have any of your books??. Also, do you where there are any openings in any of the hospitals that you have applied to?

Thanks,

Cece

I went there from Fall 2013, Spring 2014, Summer 2014, and Fall 2014. so roughly 1.5 years. I am not sure if it can be done in one year.

I landed my first job from doing a volunteer and non-paid externship on several hospitals. [in my personal opinion] I don't think in the market that we are in, currently, listing RN-BS wouldn't help much....I'm sorry. If you have connection than it's good, otherwise, you have to be aggressive in landing the first job.

Great...one semester done :). I still have couple of the books...not all. I don't know if there are opening at my new hospital, at this time. However, I know that HHC hospitals always have openings for staff nurse positions. http://www.employment.nychhc.org Also, utilize you ex-clinical professors from your previous ADN school. Talk to them and see if they can help you with at least "an interview." Good luck with the reminder of the semesters and good luck on your nursing career.

hey guys, I been looking for posts about Downstate and do not see many. I got accepted into the RN-BSN for Fall 2015. I am guessing you graduated already. I am debating where I should go there or one of SUNY online programs upstate ny. I already have a BA in another field so I have the non-nursing classes needed already. (I am graduating with my ADN in May ) How did you like the program? was it flexible ?

Don't know much about program elsewhere, but Downstate's program was pretty good in my opinion. They are pretty flexible. They usually work with your work schedule. I was on my orientation for my first nursing job when I started at Downstate. I think I missed the first four if not five weeks of the class. You can tailor your schedule to only one day per week and their classes all are hybrid (part online). I went to Downstate is also because I want to apply the NA program when I have enough critical care experience. I graduated from downstate last December and right after I was able to land a new job at NYP. So, getting a BSN is a must if you want to advance your career. Good luck!
