Have you tried community nursing? I'm not just talking VSNY. They are not the only home based agency. Try applying to shelters, clinics, correction, and community based programs. Have you tried to reaching out to any of your clinical professors at Malloy?

Sorry to hear of your plight and can only say keep your chin up (yea I know but.... *LOL*).

Finding a nursing gig is just like getting any other sort of employment in NYC these days, you are going to have to make finding a job a job in itself.

That being said have you taken any certification courses? Reached out to nurses, nurse managers etc you meet at clinicals? Are you hounding down any nurse you see on trains, buses, subways, on the street and ask where they are working and is the place hiring? I know it can be hard to tell whom in whites or scrubs is a nurse these days but nothing ventured nothing gained.

Have someone critique your resume and cover letter. Are you presenting yourself in the best light? You only get one shot when it comes to someone reading those things and you want them to start and keep reading; not chuck it into a pile with the others.

Try agencies, flu clinics, LTC, nursing homes. Try other states or parts of NY that you can reach easily should things work out. Even try "hell hole" hospitals and or those located in areas you normally wouldn't consider. No one is saying you have to spend your entire career there, but right now what you need is experience.

Network, network, network! Speak to your family doctor- OB/gyn anyone in healthcare or related fields even pharma sales.

I replied to your other thread. try rural areas in ny, pa, and new england. if you are able to relocate. almost no one wants to relocate to these areas. that worked for some of my classmates that where in the same position you were in. if you are still in contact with any one from nursing school ask them. if all else fails (and i mean this in the nicest way possible) i know receptionists that make more money than i do, with a lot less stress and no holidays)

As the poster before me stated, I know of many receptionist jobs that having starting salaries equal to starting nurse jobs in New York. Just look at the large Manhattan corporations.

There are jobs outside of NYC (Newark and Westchester come to mind) for nurses, but the pay will be lower and the commute will be more difficult & expensive.

Good luck, whatever you choose!

Move! There's plenty of jobs here in elmira ny and its only four hours away. I graduate in may and had interviews today.

Specializes in medical surgical.

We had a nurse move here with her husband but she said there are jobs in Buffalo and they pay well.

I feel the same way..It sounds like we must have graduated around the same time. I Could of done something else like dental hygeine.. Now I've wasted 3 years in nursing school and almost 2 years post licensure looking for a job. Prior to nursing, I held a decent job in a hospital laboratory and left that job when I went back to school. I have been unsuccessful in finding a laboratory position now and I have experience in the field and good references.. I wonder why?? My guess is the nursing degree....I have also applied for waitressing jobs to no avail. The thought of going back to school for something else and paying another $20 000 and ANOTHER two or three years for another degree makes me livid...I've become somewhat bitter from this and I'm just not the same anymore. I never hear from my friends that got jobs and I dont even want to talk to friends back home because they dont seem to believe that there are no jobs and think somethings wrong with me... This situation has made me quite depressed...

On the positive side, I wont give up. I am looking into correctional nursing now as they seem to be more willing to hire w/no exp. Have you tried any prisons?

Best of Luck, Dont give up
