Anyone attending Adelphi? LI or Manhttan

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi,

Just wondering if there are any recent adelphi students? I'll be starting there in the spring as a transfer. I've heard a few people say they don't like the program or even hate it and I'm curious why? I was very nervous already and now hearing that some people hate it I am scared! I have finished all my pre reqs except the Chem 109, only because I was told it would not transfer and I could only take that at adelphi. Does anyone know what I should expect once I am there? I signed up for the manhattan campus but was told that I could take classes at garden city as well. Is this true? Your response is greatly aprreciated!

Thanks,

M.P.

Hi, M.P.

I need to take Chem 109, too. It seems that they changed the curriculums this year, they used to required students to take CHEM 107 and 108. Now it's good, we only need to take one.

Did they tell you if you can take the CHEM 109 in the Manhanttan campus? Last year i was told that those non-nursing courses could only be taken in the Garden city Campus, Im worried if i have to go all the way there to take one class.

Im not sure if Adelphi is good or not, but i have no choices, cuz there is not much options available for me.

I grad from Adelphi last yr. The program is alright. The clinical prof doesnt let you do much in the clinical with so many restrictions .. this and that. You'll learn to a lot more once you get to your last class-professionalism thats when you follow your own preceptor and you get hands on to learn how to use what your learn in class. I think most of the lecture profs I had from before already left the school for various reasons. You should ask around which prof is good and what not. But the big thing abt adelphi is the exam they give you in class has NOTHING to do with the NCLEX.. The classroom tests are harder (it depends on the prof I got some tough ones) once you grad you really have to study the nclex yourself. Kaplan is a waste of money so is the ATI they make you use in class .. thats BS too I say study from Sandras and Lippincott for Nclex .. all in all .. Adelphi's program is okay... you just MUST study hard cuz you have to get a B and above and you are allow to fail ONE class thats all.. Good Luck.. !!

I know this was posted a little while ago but I am also applying to Adelphi as a transfer. I am a little apprehensive because I won't know what classes they will accept until I go to the open house but I would like to find out before then. Do you know if they allow you to transfer nutrition and pharmacology? I'm just curious which classes did they accept when you applied? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Ms. Br0nx,

I just received an acceptance package from Adelphi and with it came a pre-evaluation of my transferred credits. I have a nursing degree from BMCC, in addition to a bachelor's degree from another CUNY school, and 90 credits were accepted (max of 90 total).

I am not sure whether you know, but Adelphi has an articulation agreement with BMCC for students who complete an associates in nursing there. This means that Adelphi would most likely transfer those credits over for you, howevr, I would call Adelphi and ask them since those classes are not part of the nursing program at BMCC.

In addition, there is a feature on the Adelphi website where you can check for equivalent classes using the BMCC and Adelphi catalog; see bottom of this page for a section called Course Equivalencies: http://admissions.adelphi.edu/UGrad/tr_info.php#courses.

Hope this helps. Let me know how things turn out. I am planning to enroll for this coming Spring to get my BSN. Good luck. :yeah:

Hi Melody,

Thanks so much for your response. Unfortunately I have not made it into the Nursing program at BMCC so I have not been able to get my associate's degree. I applied to the program last semester and I will apply this semester but Mr. Sierra already informed me that the chances are slim of me getting in with my 3.77 GPA. The only hope that I have is that I will get picked out of the lottery of students with lower GPAs. I am looking into Adelphi because I eventually would like to get my masters and become a NP or CRNA. The tuition at Adelphi is pretty steep so I don't want to transfer there unless they take most of my transfer credits. I guess I will have to just speak to someone at the open house and see what they say. Thanks again.

what do you want to know..i go to adelphi

Hi Surehands,

Do you know if I will have to complete Chem 109 before taking my first nursing class? Can you take classes at both the manhattan and garden city campus? How are the professors? Any other extra info about the program would be great.

Thanks,

M.P.

Hi Milkberry,

You are correct I was also told that the CHEM 109 must be taken at the Garden City campus. I know it's not the greatest having to trek all the way to LI just for one class but I guess that's what we'll have to do.

Let me know if you find out any more info.

Thanks,

I'm attending Adelphi & taking CHE 109. It's a very tough class, tougher than general chemistry. Unless you're strong in math and/or chemistry, it won't be easy at all. I study more for that than my other classes, incl. nursing classes (which is a ton of reading on its own). CHE 109 is a combo of general, organic, & biochemistry. It's a requirement for those who have not already taken general chemistry 1 & 2 before they applied to Adelphi. Even if you took just general chemistry 1 (without the 2nd), you would be forced to complete CHE 109. My recommendation: If you're not applying to Adelphi right away, take general chemistry 1 & 2 @ a cheaper community college instead, then transfer the credits in (I think Adelphi requires a B or better to transfer the classes over; they made their policy stricter recently; call to confirm). Verify that the classes would be accepted @ Adelphi before you take them & from what school, so there are no unwelcome surprises later. Unless you're great @ chemistry (which is a lot tougher than bio), I would try to avoid taking CHE 109 if U can help it by completing both general chemistry courses. I know it'd take a year, but it's less of a headache and u may even save some money while you're at it. I hate CHE 109 with a passion. Once you're accepted into Adelphi & U don't have the general chemistry classes, you'll be forced to take CHE 109 and pass it (2 chances to pass or you're out). I'd rather save the extra chance for a nursing course. Good luck w/ whatever u decide.

Wow, thanks for the info Maryann but unfortunately I've already applied and been accepted! I'll be registering for classes tomorrow! This really does worry me because I'm not good at chemistry at all. :o Is there any type of tutoring available there? I'm thinking of taking the evening class w/adamski. I hope this will be a good choice. I only saw 2 sections available and the other section starts at 7:30 in the morning which is too early for me since I'll be commuting by train from Brooklyn. One other question, I heard that you must finish chem 109 before starting any nursing classes, is this true?

Thanks,

M.H.

Hey, I am planning to attend Adelphi university and i was just wondering how are the classes? are you attending garden city or Manhattan campus? I just want some honest advice on how difficult it is to pass classes and i would appreciate helpful hints.

Thanks Lots :)
