Hello Ladies & Gents

just wanted to introduce myself to the site, glad to be a member

I'm starting nursing school 1st semester so excited, any advice PLEASE HELP:eek::eek::chair:

Specializes in Knuckle Dragging Nurse aka MTA.

welcome aboard. Advice from me is make sure you check your meds 4 or 5 times before giving them , know the five rights to med administartion, and go slowly. Mistakes can seriously affect patients and will get you booted from the program.

Specializes in critical care: trauma/oncology/burns.

Hello NewMom27! Welcome. And, good luck to you. I do hope you enjoy your nursing education. Gosh, I can remember my first day like it was yester(year)day (smile). I was soooo nervous I was humming during the entire orientation. In fact a few of the then new students (who later became fast friends and pals) always remarked how cool, calm and collected I seemed. Why? Because I was singing an old Jefferson Airplane song (yeah, I'm dating myself)

My best advice: try to get some sleep; go over your notes from the day before; always try to be prepared especially when you start working the floors and having "real" patients. Read up on the different disease/syndromes that they have and maybe make up index cards for all the drugs you will be expected to recognize and memorize. Ugh, are they still having you guys do nursing care plans? Those were the bane of my existence! Hated doing them.

Good luck, keep us posted on how your schooling is coming along!

Thank you so much athena55 for your advice I will keep all you said in mind.:lol2:
