My community college contacted me by letter yesterday and told me I could move my start date from April 09 back, and start this Fall, Oct 08. Because this was my original start date, I called and accepted the new start date.
I have 2 concerns:
1). I do not have any of my pre-reqs done, because I thought I had a year to do them and due to illness.
2). I want to be as healthly as I can be to go to school. I've been wearing a walking air cast for charcot's neurotheraphy since Jan. Recently March 14th I was taken to the emergency room for shortness of breath, after a chest x-ray and cat-scan I was diagnosed with pulmonary emoboli. Today my doctor dc my oxygen order ( I came home with ) and told me my lungs sound great. I feel pretty good for someone that's been inactive.
I guess I'am just concern if I bit off a little too much with out thinking about it, I would appreciate and comments or advice. Or maybe I'am overthinking all of this, I tend to do that. I know one of the classes is A&Pand it is stressful.:typing

I would be concerned too especially on whether or not you are strong enough to withstand clinicals. Are you going to be able to care for patients and keep up with the other students in your current state? I do not want to sound negative. Is charcot's neurotheraphy chronic? I am not familiar with it. If you can make it through all of the physical stuff...the learning part shouldn't worry you.

Do you have to get a physical for clinicals? Even if it's not required, I would see my physician and keep regular appts to make sure you're ok.:nuke:

Hey,
I just finished my 2nd week of my LPN classes in a trade school in Ramsey, NJ, which started w/Gerontology & Nursing Process. I had already achieved my CMA (Certified Medical Asst.) training at a sister school, w/4.0 GPA. However, I took my 1st test in Gerontology class, & after a good amount of studying, I got an 84. Reason being, all the nursing tests, from what I understand, are "CRITICAL THINKING", which is a completely differnt animal; very subjective questions. So be aware, all that you think you know, is not necessarily going to appy to this course. Although, they said Gerontology, which is a 2 month course (7 credits) is the hardest of all. I think they're just trying to weed out the weaker students. We also have clincial in a hospital every other Saturday. It's alot of work but it's definately worth it in the long run.
Good Luck!
