I am starting my second semester tomorrow in an ADN program. We had clinicals last semester in our Fundamentals of Nursing class, and I feel like I am able to better assess a patient now, but I didn't get a chance to do any injections or caths, or any of that skills based stuff. I assisted in changing some dressings and turned alot of patients, did a couple of tube feedings. Is my experience in line with most of yours, going into the second semester? Or am i under the gun because I didn't do injections, caths, etc? What was your second semester, Med/Surg I experiences with skills?
Thanks

I'm an ADN student getting ready for my second semester as well. I did one injection (subcu) but no catheters or dressing changes. I think it's just kind of a combination of what your school allows you to do/trains you for and the luck of the draw as to whether or not you get a patient that needs a dressing change or whatever. We didn't even do catheter checkoffs in the lab until the end of the semester after clinicals were over, so we wouldn't have been allowed to do a cathether on a real patient
