I graduated in May 2013, passed the NCLEX in June and then got married and moved to another city at the end of September. I started looking for a new job immediately after I moved, but it took me 6 months. I was recently hired onto an ortho floor at a large hospital. I am so grateful and excited for the job, but as my start date approaches I'm getting really nervous. I have been out of school for almost a year. I'm trying to review before I start but don't know what I should look at! Does anyone have any tips on what to review or about starting your first job so far out of nursing school?? I really want to do a good job

I started my first job a month ago It took me 6 months to find a job as well I would recommend you review medications common in ortho patients and telemetry, even if your floor isn't telemetry many hospitals require you to take an competency exam. Other than that much of what you're going to learn is hands on. Good luck!

I had started almost a year after I graduated too and was excited and nervous to start. I was lucky to get into a New Grad Residency program with the hospital so the transition was much smoother than if I wasn't in a GN program. In addition, I had a great preceptor who was understanding that it had been a year since I touch a patient so we took it slow then progressed accordingly.
You won't remember all the meds you learned in school, and it's ok. Write down the common meds you will see and research them when you get home. Make a folder and include in it the hospital's policies and procedures such as blood product administration.
