I hate to say it but it's like that in many states right now. I know some who have waited over a year and still do not have a job. Even LTC/LTACs and nursing homes are not hurting for nurses the way they used to. I'm in MA and the glut is serious. I've applied to RI and NH and it's the same situation there as well. Hang in there. If relocation is an option for you I'd strongly recommend considering it, especially if you want to get into a specialty.

In southern California, where I am from, basically every hospital is hiring. However, new grads are only hired at special times of the year (I think it's 1 or 2 times a year) so that you can be started in the orientation program.

I am having the same problem as you Cubangirl. It is very discouraging especially because all we hear about is the nursing shortage. My friends and family cannot understand why I am having a hard time finding a job. When I started nursing school I always assumed I would have a job when I was done, boy was I wrong!
Good luck to all of us in the job hunt!

There are many job openings in the SF Bay area. FYI though the cost of living is very high.

you're not alone cubangirl,
same here with me at Washington and Oregon, I am still in job hunting for 3 months now,
i have an agency but i'm still in the process of applying for my assignment at the correctional facility, i'm gonna have an interview tomorrow
i also applied for public health nurse II position, i was able to become one of the finalists but i didn't get the job, i need some more experience according to the health department. though the manager is still bargaining with their HR to hire me temporarily for a different position maybe a lower position.. i pray that i will hear a good news from the clinical manager tomorrow:plsebeg:
just continue sending your applications online or go out apply in person to some LTC who don't post their ad online or newspaper, be a walk-in applicant..i also go out and apply whenever my husband got a chance to get off from work and watched our kids
don't give up :wshgrt:

Please come to North Carolina! We have plenty of jobs! The weather is beautiful (no snow) and the people are great.
I work for the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill and LOVE IT! We could find you a job tommorrow.
Seriously, you may need to consider a relocation for a time. Good Luck.
Unfortunatelly relocation is not an option for me. My husband has a good job here and we are also taking care of his eldery parents. We live in northern New Jersey. I would love to get away from the snow and really cold winters.

Another alternative is to look in NYC for a nursing job. Good luck with the job hunt!

if you relocate, try areas that are rural and away from normal civilization. places in the middle of nowhere are always hurting for nurses both inside and outside the hospital setting. new grads have opportunities in such places that they do not have in bigger cities that can be picky about hiring experience or hiring twice a year (when the schools graduate more nurses). gl!
