New RN, First Job, Been out of school for 3 months

Published

I completed my ADN in June of this year (2012) and passed NCLEX in July and have been persuing this job since then. It took a month from passing NCLEX to get the job, and another month before they set my start date. I am scared, I haven't had any hands on in 3 months and about to start working on a floor at a hospital. Is this normal for a new RN to feel this way? I am reading trying to stay up on things, but scared I may have forgot too much. Any advise, has anyone else been there. I really want to do my best, and not dissappoint my patients, new employer, family, and myself. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks!

Congratulations for landing your first nursing job!! That is a great accomplishment.

I moved your thread to First Year After Nursing Licensure where I think you will get more helpful responses and support. You might want to read through some of the other threads in this forum for helpful suggestions.

Good luck!!!!

ABSOLUTELY NORMAL! Be prepared to feel scared out of your brain for awhile yet. :) I still freak out and I am 7 months into floor nursing. :) You'll be ok..... my best advice? ENJOY YOUR ORIENTATION!!!

Thanks, I'm glad it's normal. I plan on enjoying orientation, and I'm in a residency program for a year so I get extra skills classes and a mentor, that also helps. But being out of the clinical setting and school for the last 3 months really has me on edge. You are almost to your year yay! Thanks, take care! :)
