New pre-nursing student on the Northshore

I just wanted to say hello to all. I'm new here and I'm new to the nursing world. I have been walking around for about two years going...if I did it over, I'd do healthcare.....radiology, sonography, etc. Well about three months ago I decided I'm only 31 so I looked into it...and I found enough resources to try and do it.

I plan on starting to volunteering, as I can, at Lakeview Regional, (it's the closest hospital to my house) and am taking my first courses this summer (for pre-reqs) at Delgado. I need six courses for the Our Lady of the Lake accelerated program. I am plan on applying there for East Jefferson, Tulane, and Baton Rouge (for Fall 2010). I feel optimistic that I'll get in. I also have Charity as a back burner choice.

Oh I'm 31, on the Northshore, single mom of one 10 year old, work in marketing/real estate, I already have a BS with a dual major of Marketing and Business Administration from UNO.

Any guidance and advice would be greatly appreciated!

I started my pre-reqs when I was 39, I continued to work at my old job (not in the health industry), until I was accepted into Charity. I saved every penny I could spare to be able to quit and commit myself solely to Nursing School. I am now in my last year, and have never for one second regreted the career change. You will love it, it can be hard at times and seem near impossible to absorb all the info that is thrown at you, but you will survive, and from it all finally have a career that you truely love!!!!

Good Luck! and Enjoy the ride!!

I, too have been in marketing/real estate. I have a BS in Psych from UNO & am doing the career change thing at 27, with 2 small children. I've had some fun with real estate but I can't take the chance that my income won't be there for my family. Best wishes to you & good luck getting in. I am waiting to hear from OLOL Accelerated for Fall 09 (EJGH). I'll be finished with Delgado by the end of the summer.

Hi,

Did you get in to E.J.? If so, what do you think? I am applying for the Fall 2010 class.

I am also considering a career change. I would like to combine Education with Nursing. A little nervous about starting over again. This will not be my first time starting over.

I am also applying for Fall 2010 class. Hopefully we can keep in touch throughout the process.
