I have my first travel assignment coming up at Children's in NOLA. I am super excited to be in New Orleans...so different from any other city! Has anybody traveled there? Tips? Apartments?? My company is having some difficulty finding me housing that is within a 30 minute drive to the hospital! Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks!

I've read several bits of advice here about trying craigslist for housing. You could try a search on that and read the great experiences people have had. I'm sure it's much more of a challenge in a big city. I've usually been within five to ten miles of my job, and I'm also about to head to Louisiana! Pretty excited about it! Good luck finding something safe and nearby. Have a GREAT time in New Orleans!

I'm currently on assignment in Lafayette, LA, but looked into a contract in NOLA last week. Craigslist had a fair amount of furnished one bedroom apartments in the city, so definitely try there. I decided to extend my contract in Lafayette though. Two4theroad, you're not coming to Lafayette by chance, are you? :)
I am! Are you enjoying it?
I really am! It was recently ranked the happiest city in America LOL! The people are wonderful, food is great, and there a ton of stores, making it convenient. Traffic can be frustrating, especially on Ambassador Caffery. They have photo enforced lights and safe stop vehicles (unoccupied vehicles with radar and cameras), so no speeding or running red lights . Have you found housing yet? Let me know if you have any questions! We may need to meet for a drink when you get here! Oh, and bring an umbrella AND sunscreen. :)
Ha! I'm currently hanging with my sister in Texas, I'm between assignments, so I'm acclimating to the heat and humidity for sure! I've been through town a few times and am very excited about the location. I can't wait to get settled. Looks like a very pretty place, and I'm interested in learning about the swamp to the West. It's so beautiful! Must be a good place to be if you signed on for another tour :) Yes to the get together! I'll be there in a few weeks, hopefully settled in quickly and we can work out something!
Awesome! I'm trying to get to where I can send you a PM, so be on the lookout!
Thanks so much! The Craiglist option still give me strange feelings inside, lol! I had to sign with a different company, so I will see what options they come up with for housing. Has anyone ever had an assignment in NOLA, where did you stay???

Craigslist is just the new classifieds. Just as respectable as the advertisers. Property management companies and individuals advertise there, just like they did in newspaper's heyday. No matter how you find housing, it is buyer beware. Personally, I find most individuals to be more trustworthy than property managers.

I'm currently on travel assignment, but not in New Orleans. I just wanted to say that I use Craigslist for my housing and I put an ad out looking for housing and I was contacted by my current landlord. I landed a 2 bedroom/2 bath fully furnished condo with a garage and all utilities paid for 1300/month in California, which is very cheap. I also didn't have to give a deposit, and my landlord lets me pay by the week.
I am also a 15 minute drive from the hospital. I had several offers on Craigslist where someone or a management company responded to my ad.
Ok, my turn to try to up my posts so I can PM you back! I'll get there soon! Then we need to have a coffee :)
Hey two4theroad! I PM'd you back. Did you get it?
