Hi Im a newly Registered nurse in NZ and am wanting to relocate to Australia. I have applied for some positions already but see there are a lot of the New Grad programmes have already closed. Does anyone have any helpful tips on starting out or even where to begin. Do you have to complete a new grad programme to get in or can you go straight into a job and what sort of support is there for someone newly registered. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :-)

Try allthe private hospitals, ramsay healthcare, healthe, they are taking on and sponsoring nurses from the Phillipines with little or no experience. Oh and all the mater and catholic private hospitals are busy recruiting from overseas as well. (inNSW only though)

If you want to work in a large public hospital they prefer you to have completed a grad program but its not essential. Most private hospitals you don't need a grad program.

Hi Kylie
Get your APC sorted first if you have not already done so.
Do you have a location in mind?
Once you do approach the HR departments directly ie Queensland Health for example, they will often happly accept your CV and information on what areas you are interested in etc. The less preferences you have the more options they are likely to have. And go for it.
New grad roles differ from hospital to hospital and may not be present in the smaller centres, but dont take that as a disadvantage as the scope of practice and skills development can be very wide - jill of all trades....
If you don't have a preference for location your success in getting a position could be quick.
Good hunting

PS been there done that, started small once in it is easier to move up and to bigger centres if that is your goal
