I am just starting school two weeks from Monday for my LPN program. I know I have nothing to be scared about. I was just wondering if there was anyone else starting out just as nervous as I am. New and veteran nursing students would help take the ease off of my worries. Thanks for any advice.

Being nervous is NORMAL!!! Especially if you have no medical background. The common thoughts are "Am I cut out for this?" "Can I really do this?" I graduated 19 years ago and I still remember feeling this.
Don't be afraid to ask questions and absorb everything you possibly can!

hello all, I too am nervous about attending a program that I worked so hard to get into. I start my program August 20 so yall pray for me. I will also be praying for the ones who are wanting to get in a program, that are in the program and those that are finishing the program. We can do this and I thank God for this website for the encouraging words from my fellow healthcare teammates. Good luck and God bless each of you.

I start in the fall and, yes, I am nervous too. It really is funny how you dream about something for so long and work for all your might to get it and then go, "Oh, crap!" because you know what a huge commitment the nursing program will be.
I've always been hardworking and a time-manager, so I don't know... will those traits make nursing school not seem so bad because I'm used to it, or will it become even MORE DIFFICULT and throw me over the edge?
I don't want to fail. It would kill me after waiting so long for this! I guess alot of it is the unknown...

I'm scared, too, I start in August..that's why I am trying to prepare as much as I can now, learning as much as I can so I'm a little more comfortable in class, it's just a guess, but I hope it will help me...someone told me that most fear stems from the unknown, and the more you learn, the less fear there will be..so, here I go, headfirst into a book, lol..

Hi quas26,
I too will be starting NS, although I won't start until August 20. I am going into the ADN program here in East Texas and am scared to death!!! It is normal though to feel that way, and especially for those like me that have no previous experience (except for 19 years ago when I was one of the first certified nurse assistants!!)
I think that the schools purposely make it nerve-wracking for students also!!! I mean, I will not have orientation until August 14, and then it is for 2 days, 8:00-6:00 each day. I got a letter 3 weeks ago telling me to get certified or recertified for CPR, and a tentitive schedule of classes and clinicals along with a booklist, and that is it! The booklist itself has me scared to death, because I have to get 18 books for 4 classes. Not including 2 others for orientation!! We have to buy them new, and the bookstore will not even have them in stock and ready to go until the week before orientation starts.
So...in answer to your question, yeah, I am scared!!! Not just nerrvous, but SCARED!!!
Good luck in your program, and you are in the right place to come for help and encouragement~

i will also start the rn program on august 20th. i'm very nervous but excited to get started. i wish we could get our list of books and packet but we haven't got anything and we had orientation like 3 weeks ago.
Hey Future,
I am kind of in your same boat, except I have my booklist and tentative schedule, but won't do orientation until a week before school starts! I know that class'labs are 3 days a week from 8:00-5:30, and clinicals are 2x a week from 5:30a-5:30p. That is the part that has me the most nervous!! I'm sure all will be okay though!! Good luck~

I'm about to enter my 4th and final semester of nursing school and although I'm not a newbie at this, I still get nervous before a semester. I think knowing what's ahead of you can be just as daunting as not knowing. I feel a little nauseated b/c I do know what's coming and how much blood, sweat and tears are going to be poured into school. I feel like a mouse preparing for the winter....say goodbye to family and friends, get all the house cleaning caught up, cook up some ready to heat meals etc... I'm not trying to scare anyone, but this is the reality, and I, too am nervous.
NAUSEATED, Soulshine?? YIKES! Now I've gone from being nervous to feeling all-out terror!

Self esteem is found in doing the things you think you cannot do. I know I found mine in nursing school! You will be fabulous. Attitude is everything. Now go kick some a..!
