Hi, I need a little advice on where to start my new journey. I currently passed my RN NCLEX after finishing nursing school 7 years ago. I’ve been out of school and working as a medical receptionist and finally decided to take my boards again. With that being said I passed and now am currently a registered nurse BUT I don’t know where to begin. I’m in Texas and applied at several places on indeed. I’m getting a lot of responses from home health agencies and I got a residency program offer for 16 weeks working/ training with a preceptor on a Intermediate care unit as well. Normally a new RN is fresh with skills from school but I had such a big break that I don’t feel confident and not sure where to start. The home health reassured me they will put me with low acuity patients and train me. Please guys any advice will help. Thank you.

Congratulationssss!!?
It depends on what you want to do. Don't get scared now jk ha ha! Get that confidence back!! Sky's the limit!
You can start at that hospital's Intermediary Unit. Most of the time as a new nurse, they give you a lot of training, and trust me it will come back to you.
You've worked so hard, go for what you want!
Thank you!! I’m not sure exactly what I want to do but I definitely want to be well rounded and confident considering I’ve been out of school so long. Thank you for your response! I think I will go for the residency program just to get that training. ? ?⚕️
Yesss! Don't let fear paralyze you!!
You're going to be good!!
Best~

Don't go with the home health fresh out of school. They promise low acuity, but what if they don't have it? Take the intermediate care unit and you'll get your skills. Congrats and good luck!

Home health won’t offer you the nursing foundation you will receive in a hospital residency program. That being said, CONGRATULATIONS! That’s pretty amazing. If I had not passed the NCLEX the first time around, l figured I never would because it was so difficult.

Id go with anything that gets me starting in a med surge (hospital) setting. However, that's just me. Also, ask about money. It's important.

Just wanted to say congrats. I have a somewhat similar situation so this gives me hope. Just wanted to check in and see what you decided how it’s going?
Thank you! Hi so I think I’m going to go with home health just to get my foot in. It’s a little hard with my huge gap. The residency program didn’t accept me so I kind of don’t have much choice. Home health agencies are really the only ones showing interests but they will give me training and more training if I still don’t feel comfortable.
Well the main thing is it sounds like you found someone that supports your situation and that’s awesome. More doors will open from there.
Thank you I agree. They are very supportive. It stinks when others judge my gap. I’m passionate about this or I wouldn’t have continued to try for so long. I never stopped studying during that time, I just stopped testing because after a couple fails I was very discouraged and then I finally decided to attempt it again. Now just to be hands on is what I’m needing.
Trust me I understand. I passed my NCLEX right out of school but there was no shortage and it was competitive and I looked for 2 years and couldn’t find work. It’s now 11 years later and I’m looking at nursing again.
