NEW NMC guidelines- Test of Competence

Published

Hi!

I am new to this site and I heard that this website is really a big help for nurses all over the world.

I would like to ask something from you guys. I recently passed the IELTS Academic here in the Philippines and I am dreaming to work in the UK. I have registered with the NMC and passed the online eligibility assessment for me to sit the test of competence with Pearson Vue. However, as this NMC protocol is new, I am not able to find any resource materials on what questions will be asked in the said test. The only thing that NMC provided was a list of websites to visit that are possible exam topics.

Now since as everyone here is aware that being a nurse is very tedious, I believe I cannot condense all the information from the different websites provided by the NMC. Is there anyone here who have sat the NMC Test of Competence? If so, can you please help me with what resources to read and what possible questions can come out during the exam?

I am planning to take the exam here in the Philippines by next month. Please help me guys!

hey, they have a pratice test in pearson vue, its 90 gbp. expensive. lol. so we have no choice but to study everything. hows ur review? ill be taking this dec too

Check out the NMC test online thread

I took it today and failed.

Where did you took it?

Hi, I'm taking the test next week while on holiday in the UK. Any insight on the exam, as to what to study? I know that there are 40 critical questions and that all must be passed in order to PASS the exam. My recruiter in the UK told me that all the nurses they know have failed as well, but that two were called back and told they were reassessed and passed. Any advice would be appreciated!

Do you know what they meant by reassessed? Did they resit the test or have to submit some kind of formal appeal? Or someone from the NMC took the initiative to call them up and tell them they passed? Thank you!

I don't know how they were contacted but I know they didn't have to re-sit the exam.

And i failed too. Hahaha

Hey Everyone,

I am also going to write the competence test and am scared now with what everyone has said haha.

what made it so hard??

I've heard that a lot of people have failed, and only a few have been reassessed and passed because there could've been more than one correct answer depending on how certain questions were interpreted. From what I've seen on the NMC's blueprint, a lot of the essential questions are related to their laws and their "code," so I'm trying to become more familiar with everything the blueprint says is "essential" information. I sit the exam in less than 2 weeks...

hi there!

Thabks for you answer I'm getting a little nervous!! I don't know where you are from but it seems a little similar to our registration exam in canada many of the questions have more than one correct answer. So hopefully that will help but it has been a little while since I wrote mine here! GOODLUCK with your exam! Let us know how it went :)
