NEW LVN job hunt PAINS

Published

I been looking for a job since I got my license last June. I lost count of how many places where I applied. Applied on-line, walk in, asked friends but still I am unemployed. I am keeping the faith that I will be hired soon. I really pray that I get hire soon since savings is already running low and bills are piling up.

Its so sad that every ads that I see needs atleast one year experience, if not they dont respond back. In the morning I start looking for convalescent hosp, rehab. centers, nursing homes, assisted living facility, home health, medical groups and start calling them to see which one have an opening so I can go in the afternoon to apply. Every weekdays thats my routine. One experience that until now make me sad was when I had a DON interviewed me in a long term care facility. Beside from grinding me to see if I am knowledgeable she kept on telling me that she dont want to train new grads since they leave after getting trained and as a new grad I should be the one paying them to train me. She kept on and on, making me feel that I should be begging for the opportunity to work in her facility since I dont have experience. Afterwards, she told me how much they are paying as a new grad LVN. They are only paying $17.00/hr. No wonder nobody stay! It made me feel so sad since the job that I gave up just to finish LVN was paying more than what they want to pay me if she will hire me . I am not being greedy but I just feel like for $17 she wants my soul. When I got home I cant help but cried because I reached my lowest point. But I know when I wake up tomorrow I have to start looking for a job again.

I take it you are in Southern CA? I don't know what the pay is down there but I had an informal interview with a DON. She actually had just filled an open position but she said they start new grads at $26.

Anyway, I'm in the same position. I've had my license since late May and still don't have a job. No one is hiring, not even PRN. I've applied for endorsement to NC (have family I can stay with) because I'm losing hope and I've run out of money and now I'm using my husband's savings so I need to find something fast.

I'm wishing you luck on your search!

Well....I work ft in LTC ..but we have been getting cut back alot for low census...so I have been looking for prn work with no luck whatsoever. I went this past Friday to look at 3 different facilities that are about an hour from my house....2 looked good..but that last one....I wouldnt even pull in the parking lot of it...looked so run down and nasty..plus it was in a horrible neighborhood...The prn jobs Ive applied for since mid july...ive had 2 call backs...and when I went and filled out papers for one...i never heard anything else again.....the 2nd one....Im still working with to see about getting on with them. It does get frustrating....As for that one job you went to....with the DON saying what she said..doesnt sound like a place you'd want to get your first experiences at to start with. I know that bayada ALWAys needs help......I dont know of there are any where you are but here in NC ...bayada is all over the place. and they pay really good. I myself havent applied with them b/c I dont want to do any kind of home health. They do alot of vents and trachs but give you extensive training...a coworker of mine works prn for them and so far she loves it and she had never done any home health before. If you come to NC ....check out bayada or check them out online..you can even apply online bayada.com

Where are you looking? I've been calling places all over NC just to get a feel for what is out there and a lot of places are hiring PRN. I hope I'm not wasting more time and money going out there.:banghead:
