I've worked ER in a level one trauma unit for two years. I then left to go to a day shift schedule and was working in non-invasive nuclear medicine and occupational health while also picking up shifts for an agency doing ER. I have since decided to pursue midwifery and landed a job in L&D. I will be able to train on days and was given about a four month orientation window. I know that I need to learn so much and am hoping the four months will be enough. I think approaching orientation with the knowledge that I need to listen and ask questions- know that everyone has something they do very well-and just be a sponge will help....but are there some skills that I should pay close attention to while on orientation? Specific situations? I'm hired for nights and there is not an OB in house.....( we also are to learn how to scrub in/do sections/recover/keep our couplets/do triage/recover surgical patients (hysts, etc).
