New job in urology surgery!

Published

Hello! I have just found out that I got a job as a UNE (undergrad nurse employee) on a general surgery and urology surgury units. I was just wondering if anyone out there worked on a unit like this and if you have any advice?

I just got a job on a general surgery/urology unit myself and I am wondering the same things. It will be my first job as an RN so I am nervous but I think I will like it. Good luck with your new job!

Specializes in ICU, CCU,Wound Care,LTC, Hospice, MDS.

This was my first job after leaving ICU/CCU and I loved it! I really learned a lot about Urology and still had general surgery pts that were more familiar to me. I was a member of American Urological Association Allied. At that time, it was really cheap and had lots of good information, but that was a long time ago.

Good luck to both of you!

Tip: Plan ahead - don't let your Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI) bag run dry. And make sure that there is enough for the next shift. Nothing makes your coworkers angrier than following behind you and having an almost empty bag and none left on the floor.

Thanks for the tips! I'm excited to see what this will bring as its pretty much going to be my first time working outside of long term care. Good luck starting your new job as well!
