How long to get physical license?

I passed the NCLEX and my license number went up on the BON site earlier this week :cat: My job needs me to bring a paper copy of my license to HR. When do I get the paper license? Does it come in the mail?

Per the BoN employers are to verify licenses online with the BoN. Have you been issued a number yet? It can take a while to print and mail or you could drive in person to the BoN in Newark and see if they can give it to you on the spot

I do have a license number (and have already sent it to HR). They still want the physical license by the middle of next month, so mostly I was wondering how long I should give the BON before I show up in person to annoy them :)

Average is 4-6 weeks.

The BoN may tell you the facility is not to rely on paper licenses (as there have been forgeries over the years) They are legally obligated to verify online or via fax direct with the BoN. Most HR reps are stuck in the old ways

Yep. In TX we are never sent paper licenses any more. What you can do is go to the RN verification on-line and print screen a copy of that.

I appreciate the responses. Like I said previously, my job was able to confirm that I had an active license with my license number, but they still wanted the paper license before I start.

In case anyone else has the same question in the future: I received my license in the mail today, exactly two weeks after getting my license number. So for the NJ BON, it takes about two weeks to receive your license in the mail.

That's an incredible improvement over the last few months. Actually employers are not supposed to copy or demand physical licenses in NJ but the BoN clearly needs to do another reeducation campaign
