New immigrant in ontario and a registered nurse in place of origin

Published

hello! im a new immigrant here in ontario. i just arrived here last June 27, 2008. i am also a registered nurse in my country(philippines).. i already applied for the application package from CNO and sent back to them the forms which i completed. i just have few questions:

1. how long does the application can be evaluated?

2. do i still have to take ielts even though i am a permanent resident here? (i know i still have to take but others are telling otherwise)

3. what jobs related to nursing can i apply for?

4. do i still have to take bridging courses here?

thanks a lot..:)

Did you read the sticky at the top of the Canadian Nurses home page that is for IENs? Please do so now.

Immigration and licensure are completely separate. It does not matter that I am a citizen of Canada...I still have to follow the rules of the college of nursing. I studied in the US and it took about 6 months to assess my education in BC. And, yes I have to follow the rules of a foreign educated nurse. The same will be true for you. You need to look at the College of Registered Nurses of Ontario and they will list for you the requirements of the process. Most countries require IELTS if your instruction was not in English.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Bridging will depend on the province and your transcripts, being a PR will not make any difference as it has to do with your training.

thanks.. do you have an idea if they solely depends on the subjects/courses that i finished or do they also consider my grades? what if someone graduated as cum laude, does it make a difference?

thanks again...

To be honest I am not sure but would image they just look at course content and what hours both clinical and theory was allocated
