New to Houston area

Hi,

I recently move to The Woodlands area and I am looking into nursing programs preferably BSN programs. I have reached out to Chamberlain College of Nursing and would like to hear from anyone who is currently attending or has attended the Houston campus for some feedback.

While I have no problem with attending a community college for an ADN program, I have so many credits toward a Bach. program I would like to continue that way. Plus there does not seem to be many programs starting soon as it appears I have missed the deadline for them.

We are a military family so I have had to change schools a great deal of times, we are going to be here for at least 3 years so I would like to get this completed soon.

Thanks

Angela

Does anyone have any information?

Hi JacAn001,

I am originally from Houston, Texas but moved after HS graduation to central Texas. All hopes of moving back to Houston within the next 3 years after I complete my MSN. Although I did not graduate from nursing school in Houston, a few of my close friends did. Two of them graduated from Prairie View A&M College of Nursing and 1 from the UT Health Science Center at Houston. All of them passed NCLEX first try.

I would personally contact Chamberlain SON if you'd like more information regarding that program. Sorry I can't give you any info on that school :(. I can tell you that nursing school ain't easy but the career is very rewarding.

Have you thought of pursuing your degree online? UT Arlington and UTMB may also be possibilities to consider. Hope this helps!!

Competition for BSN programs in the Houston area remains fierce. You'll need a top-notch GPA & test scores to be competitive. TWU & UTHSC & UTMB are public universities with stellar programs. Prairie View continues to struggle. Houston Baptist has dipped a bit, but if you can afford a private uni - they have a good program. Chamberlin is a commercial school with very mediocre results so far. Check HERE for a 5-year summary of NCLEX results for all RN schools.

Just gaining admission may take a while - you may have to look at "staying put" to complete your education if your family has to move on.

Best of luck to you on your educational journey.

I live in Houston & start nursing school next month! Just like the person above said, its very competitive (800-900 people apply,125-150 get in) there's TWU, UTH, UTMB, a&m prairie view. Also in Beaumont, there's Lamar university. If you're looking for ADN program, HCC, lone star and San Jac are places to look. I would say go to the schools that you're interested in website & look at their requirements and deadlines :) Good luck & welcome to the humidity!

Thank you for your responses. Greatly appreciated.

Hi! I'm actually moving to Houston in August because I got into the nursing program at TWU! There are many schools with nursing programs in the area, but like others have said it's competitive!

I know most about TWU though. Try looking into it and see if it works! Application Deadline for the next cycle is Sept 1. And if accepted, you would start in the Spring of 16!

Good luck to you & hope you find a program that works for you :)
