I'm currently working in Pittsburgh, PA. I have been a nurse since 2006 and I'm currently a clinician at UPMC which is basically an assistant manager on a nursing unit. I'm saving up to move south and I love Wilmington. I have read some interesting things to say the least about NHRMC, however I could easily find complaints about UPMC and I don't think I'm treated badly here.

I'm finishing my MSN this semester and I am wondering if I should finish my MBA as well. It would add another $10,000 on to my student loan so if anyone has any insight as to whether this is a good idea or not, please let me know! I would finish it if I planned to stay in Pittsburgh for sure because so many people have their MSN here since there is a university on every corner. I am applying for jobs here in Pittsburgh and plan to gain experience as a unit director for at least a year at UPMC before I move so I can apply for management positions in Wilmington. I'm not sure how competitive management jobs are in Wilmington and if experience or a degree is more valued there.

Also, does anyone know if NHRMC pays well? I read an old thread so I realize it was probably outdated and it pretty much only discussed GN starting rates.

THe pay in Wilmington is usually lower than elsewhere in the state due to............ wait for it..................... everyone wanting to live at the beach and NHRMC takes full advantage of that. You sound like you are heading towards the management side of things and I can't really speak to that aspect of nursing. Good luck in whatever you choose.

Since NHRMC is the healthcare monopoly in the area, they don't have to pay a lot. I started here in February 2015 and got $21.90 base pay (3 yrs experience). Night differential is 4.25 and weekends is 2.50 I believe. They have good employee benefits and staffing is usually pretty good. Wilmington is beautiful. I don't have any complaints.

That's great to hear. I'll be moving to Wilmington next month and have a Skype interview tomorrow. What kind of floor do you work on? The position I am interviewing for is on a Diabetes/Medicine floor. I have a little over one year on a med/surg floor. Thanks!

desperately looking to find somebody with over 10 yrs experience willing to share what their rate of pay is. I was considering NHRMC but ended up going to MUSC in Charleston instead. The hospital is great but the pay is lousy. I am making less then I did as a new grad in MA 16 years ago. I don't know how anybody can afford to live here. Am looking at the Wilmington area again but must first find out what my pay rate would be.

hi nursetim, thanks for taking the time to reply but all your earlier post says is that the pay in Wilmington is usually lower than other parts of the state. I am trying to find an actual dollar amount. I am certainly willing to provide my personal email address if anybody who is willing to share would prefer to comment off of the board. epw519@aol.com
