Hi there:

I'm looking for info on local hosp (nurse patient ratios in icu's, working conditions..). My experience is in critical care. What towns would be a reasonable commute from White River Junction?

Any Dartmouth Hitchcock nurses out there?

DHMC is a wonderful place to work. It is a modern teaching hospital that is very cutting edge in many aspects. The patient ratios are mostly 2:1 and a very congenial group of nurses to work with. The ICU is clean and the equipment is newer and of good quality. The manager of the ICU is very nice and fair. It is one of the best places I have ever worked. The downside for me was that I did not like living in rural NH. It is beautiful with a lot of fantastic outdoor stuff to do, but still very rural and I am a suburbanite! I left to go to CRNA school, but I really enjoyed working there. If you like rural living and want to work at a top notch academic medical center, then DHMC is the place. It is definitely the best hospital in NH or VT and one of the best in the country. IMO. PM me if you have specific questions. Good luck.

Im not a nurse yet.....but I just wanted to say how much I love this hospital. My mother had her reconstruction surgery from her mastectomy there. The nurses were superb, the hospital immaculate. I cant say enough. The nurse to patient ration was great. Speaking with the staff, I learned that there are people who travel quite a distance to work at that hospital. It was a major difference from the Nashua hospitals though maybe just because its so large?
