New LNA :) have any advice??

U.S.A. New Hampshire

I finished my LNA course a few weeks ago and I'm starting the LPN program at NE School of Practical Nursing in January. Anyway, my license was finally made official today, thus I am starting the job hunt!! In clinicals the most residents I ever took care of at once was 4, so basically I am pretty nervous about having a list of 10 residents to care for by myself. If anybody has any advice or tricks that will help me get going and get the hang of things faster, please share!! Thanks ahead of time, guys!

Congrats and best wishes to you!

At the top of the NH forum, there is information on the State of NH reimbursing for the cost of your schooling once you are working in NH. All you have to do is have the company you work for fill out a form and send it in!!! That should be a nice Christmas bonus for you!

A few hints that may help you out~

"You catch more bees with honey" In other words, use kind manners and words with your patients and they will likely react positively to you. If you try to rush, they get anxious and will likely become resistive or needy, thus requiring more time and effort.

Ask for and offer help w/ co-workers as this will help with safety and time management.

Prioritize your assignment-If you have patients who need frequent re-positioning or assistance, go to them first. Set up a patient who is an assist w/care and while they are washing leave them (safely) and care for one who is a total care, then go back and finish up with the assist. It can get overwhleming, but reassurance works wonders, so "never let them see you sweat".
