Hey all,
Not sure if this post is appropriate for this section of allnurses.com, but here goes: Has anyone been employed as a new graduate nurse in a setting other than a hospital (or LTC/Rehab)? I'd be curious to know specifically what environment you work/worked in. Any information would be appreciated.

I'm a new LPN, just got my license in October.
I'm working for the public health department doing H1N1 vaccinations at the schools and immunization clinics.
Doing this suits me just fine as I'll be starting the RN transitional program in May. I just hope this job lasts until then as there are few positions available for new LPNs.

I just got offered a job as a new graduate in Home Healthcare for pediatric patients from infants- adolescents, I have not started yet as I just found out I got the position, but they were surprisingly willing to train new graduates who were willing to learn, it seems like a good oppurtunity, and my dads knows someone who knows someone that owns it and its respectable, so I will let you know how it goes.
I also work as a substitute nurse in a school district, it is a lot of fun and I love kids!

I recently spoke to a homehealth agency that does mostly Peds patients as well. They had an ad thru the state employment agency saying "new grads welcome". Well, I called to be sure and they were like "sure we love new grads". I just took my boards yesterday and if, by some miracle lol, I passed, I will put in an app with them. I'm also trying the local hospital but I think I have a better chance with the home health agency. They offer classes in trach and vent care, which isn't something I'm thrilled with doing, but its a job and will be good experience. We can't afford to be choosy in this economy.
YEAH that is awesome, where do you live?
I'm about 45 minutes NW of Winston-Salem, NC. The company is located in Winston but I'm hoping I can get home jobs a bit closer to home. Plus my mother is almost 91 and my kids are in school so I'd like to be closer in case something were to come up with them. Home health might be a good fit for me in many ways. I like being one on one with my patients, making my own schedule (to an extent), seeing them in their homes (you can pick up on issues in a patient's home that you would not be privy to in a hospital setting), and being able to get a little down time between patients. Plus, if I did have a kid get sick at school, I might be able to juggle my schedule enough to do that. I will just be happy to find a decent paying job, nice coworkers, and some security. In this economy that is about all you can wish for.
