New Grad!! :-) Robbed of Grad Ceremony

I just graduated and I'm extremely excited except for the fact that I was robbed of my graduation ceremony due to weather. We picked up our cap/gown, pins, bought all white scrubs, got all dolled up and later found out that it has been cancelled. Are you serious?! I worked so hard for this moment not to mention, I was suppose to graduate wit da semester before this one. When I checked outside, the rain wasn't that bad. They said it's just a precaution measure. So just Postpone it!!!! It's a good thing my folks didn't fly out. My other classmates parents did....all the way from California, Kenya, New York to Kansas. The school announced that we will be receiving our diplomas n awards by mail, oh btw, "We're sorry, but good luck on your future." No pictures, memories, nothing. Should I be upset?? One of my classmates told me, she put her cap/gown on n enjoyed a bottle of wine by herself. I didn't even celebrate yet. Once, everyone I invited heard it was cancelled, they decided 2 find something else to do.

Congrats to those of you who just finished, it definitely wasn't easy.

Good Luck

that is utterly ridiculous!!! what kind of school cancels a graduation ceremony because of the weather? have they ever heard of a inside ceremony? after all the blood, sweat, tears and energy you all have invested in obtaining a nursing degree and to be robbed of the ceremony at the end is just devasting. i am so sorry this happened to you all. best wishes in your career.

I didn't go to my graduation but since yours is so important perhaps your class can schedule one on their own. If it means so much I wouldn't skip it even if you only get together for brunch or something. Congratulations!!

When it looked as if my daughter's graduation wasn't going to happen, the students got together and the class officers started to move forward on their own. They ended up doing almost all the work but the school still managed to supply the meeting place and cooperated. Someone said that the school did this every year. The students had to do most of the work or there would be no ceremony. As far as bad weather, bad choice by your school. Almost every major event like this has always had an alternate indoors space lined up by the people sponsoring the event, that I have seen. They print the inclement weather plans on the invitation. If they cared about you, they would have reserved a room for the event, even if they had to scale things back. Lack of respect. So sorry to hear of this. Hope a few of your classmates and you can get together for a more intimate celebration. Meet at someone's house and take pictures in your caps and gowns, then go out for dinner or a night on the town.

That is so sad!!!!! Congratulations, though:yeah:

That is awful! I am so sorry!

Well, I feel your pain, but I can do one better. We didn't even get a graduation offered to us (unless we want to come back 6 months from now and walk with every department in the school (yippee). So, we started looking at trying to make our own and were told under NO cirucumstances were we to attempt to do anything that involved a cap and gown, as they would not sanction it. So, we talked about a pinning, and said right before it starts, everyone put on their cap and gown, because what are they going to do, fail us? Most people didn't feel it was worth it if it wasn't official, so it all fell apart. We took our final HESI, walked out the door and was told to expect our diploma in the mail. I hope you are able to get a chance to wear your cap and gown. I'd like to, but I'm afraid that I will be involved in life and 6 months into my career before I get a chance to walk, and I just don't think it will hold the same luster....good luck to you & congratulations on surviving nursing school!!

Wow, that is worse! I didn't know schools can actually rob you of not only your money but also your graduation ceremony. I guess you can get away with anything nowadays. Next stop RN school, I can only imagine whats next...good times:-)

Wow that is extremely disappointing. I can't believe they did not just postpone it. You all should make up your own graduation. Seriously I have seen it done before. Also you don't have to listen to all the boring speeches. You should consider getting your nursing class together and putting on a graduation. It sounds lame but hey you need to have one because you worked so hard to get where you are. So sorry about the graduation though. That is a real bummer. You all should talk to the faculty.

Out of intense curiousity, what school is this?

It's not necessary to identify yourself, but I'm sure many of the people here would love to know the name of the school that would cancel the graduation ceremony.

I am terribly sorry that this happened to you. I know that I would be very disappointed. :banghead:

:yeah: However, Congratulations on your graduation! :yeah:

I would be very upset. You worked long and hard to get there. They should have another date for the ceremony. It might not be important to the school but, graduation is very important to the students and their families, not to mention the graduation fee's that you paid. Congrats to you anyway

i know exactly how you feel.

i was also robbed of going to graduation due to severe weather except that they did not cancel. a third of the class was unable to make it but i hear from the grapevine that there was an opportunity to have it cancelled the night before with us getting our money back.(it was at a restaurant and i paid $150.00 for myself and 5 people) what hurt the most was that i was class salutitorian and worked on a great speech for a week. i am left feeling angry and bitter knowing that i will never get that chance again. i wish you the best of luck on your nursing career.

thanks for letting me vent.
