CMC (Charlotte, NC)....19.65 initially and then 20.11 after your 90 day evaluation period. There is also a shift diff of $4 if you are working nights and an additional $3 if you work on the weekends.
Also, "I think" that there is a weekender program which is like $34 (it may be a little more for weekender nights) but you have to have at least a year experience for that and it is considered part time because its only Sat & Sun.
Hope this helps a little. Good Luck!

Hi Queen City Nurse, I will be coming out in Feb. to interview and house hunt. I really want a position at CMC University but only a few full time opening so, I may have to go to the main hospital. I'm relocating from Delaware and I have so many questions from an insider. I was once able to send a private message but I was inactive on the site for a while, but I'm really not sure why I can not send private messages. Any information you have to share about CMC or North Charlotte would be helpful
Thank You
Hi janaas
I tried to send a private message but I think that you have to respond to so many threads before you are able to send private messages. I really can't tell you a whole lot about Charlotte because I moved here a couple of years ago from Philly and I don't get out much. If you are buying a home, depending on the area, you will definitely find that it is a lot cheaper than Delaware. As far as CMC, its a pretty good place to work. I don't know much about University but if you are able to get into CMC-Main or any other facility under Carolinas Healthcare System, after 6 months you will be able to put in a transfer and it may be a little bit easier to get into University if something is open. The starting rate really isn't all that great down here compared to Delaware but if you have some experience, you may be able to negotiate a little. If you are open to working weekends, the rate is $34./hr but it is considered a part time position. However, the benefits are pretty much the same, just a little bit more and as far as accumulating PTO, I think its like 4 hrs per pay period instead of 7.5 if you were full-time. Do you know what area you are interested in? CMC also has a float pool and I think that the pay is like $26/$27 but I am not really sure.
Also, (3) 12 hour shifts are considered full-time and if I am not mistaken, almost every single floor does self scheduling which is pretty cool. With that, you can be off for 8 days without taking any PTO. For example, if you schedule yourself for Sun, Mon & Tuesday you have completed your requirements for that week and then on the next week, you can schedule yourself for Thurs, Fri & Saturday which gives you 8 nice days to be off(LOL).
Let me know if I can be of any additional assistance........good luck!
Thanks for the great information, I'm from Philly also. I have been looking at University but the main hospital has more openings, so I just need to get my foot in the door, like you mentioned I can possibly transfer in six months. I currently work nights but I was thinking about trying days until me and the kids get use to the new area. The urgent care centers has great hours 8am-8pm and closed Christmas and Thanksgiving that would be a dream come true. I'm fine with working weekends but holidays are hard. I have three years med/surg experience I wish someone would give me a chance in L&D or mom baby.
I will continue looking for homes in the North Charlotte area and keep my eye out for the openings at both CMC main and university.
Thanks again.
Hopefully I can send private messages soon.

Do not move to the University area, the best place to live in and around Charlotte is South Charlotte. The North, East, and West of Charlotte have become high crime areas (especially the Univ. Area !!!), in the last 10 years. If you want to work at University Hosp. check out homes in Mt. Island lake area (in you can afford it) just across the hwy 16 (brookshire rd) bridge. Also Gaston County, city of Mt. Holly is not bad, (lower taxes), not far from university hosp. taking 485. about 30 min commute plus or minus (time of day). I lived in Charlotte for a long time. just my 2 cents.
Thanks again Navvet, can I ask your advice about the Chapel Hill or triangle area?

Does anyone know about the Greenville area? (Sorry if this is miles away from Charlotte- I'm not sure how close the cities are!) I ask because I saw an ad in the NSNA magazine to recruit new grads for Pitt County Hospital. From googling it, it seems like a nice place, but does anyone know first hand?.....

A former classmate of mine works in L&D at Pitt and LOVES it there! I've heard nothing but good things about Pitt :)
Truern,
And how about the area? Did your classmate have anything bad to say about it? I know there's good and bad to every city, but just curious....
Maybe, someone can explain the skewed Salary info. from the major salary web sites. One of the posters advised new grad RN's starting out @ 19 and some change and then roughly 6 bucks more for nights and weekends. Salary.com advises 50K for a staff nurese, (25th percentile) in Charlotte. Is it me or is that statistic really skewed or is there just a huge standard deviation in their calculations. Just curious, because that would mean that a new grad LPN would start at about 14+ an hour. But, I know someone who just got hired in an LTC facility, starting at 20.00 an hour. Any thoughts anyone, anyone?
