New grad Relocating to NC..Help!

Published

I have been looking into positions with UNC, Wakemed, and Duke for new grads and I have worrying myself sick that I won’t get a job in the area I love. I don’t want to settle, but my family is relocating soon after graduation in May! Is there anyone who works for either hospital or has been in their new grad residency programs that can give me some advice on what to do? I don’t know anything about the area.

p.s I have a job back home that I had to let go and it was in the NICU! ; )

Specializes in Occupational Health Nursing.

I bet that experienced travel nurses can help you and give advice. But from my stand point, if your only option is to move together with your family because you don't want to settle yet then just go and apply for the position in the area that you want.

I haven’t heard back from anyone yet. One place already turned me down.

I don't know where or when you applied, but UNC currently has 45 units with posted RN New Graduate Nurse (Vizient nurse residency) positions, some of whom will have more than one position available.  As you mentioned that you had an offer for a NICU position; all units within NC Children's Hospital, including both the PICU and NCCC (NICU) have positions listed.  When you search UNC Healthcare's employment site, including "RN New Graduate Nurse" will eliminate most of the non-new grad positions.

I would also consider reapplying for positions at the facility that you say turned you down.

Best wishes for both your relocation and job search.
