New Grad Nurse Finding Acute Care Job Help

Published

Hello everyone,

I am a new graduate nurse in Northern CA with my ADN as of May 2020, since then I have been applying for acute care jobs non-stop. So far I've only gotten 3 interviews (digital due to Covid) out of around 400 applications. (I've done mock interviews which have gone well so I don't think my interview skills are bad). I've been seeing a lot of my applications are being reviewed by hiring managers, but have not progressed beyond that. I have one year experience as an MA at the VA  and I have my BLS, ACLS and PALS certs as well as some solid references. I'm also half way through a RN-BSN bridge program. I still have not been able to land a hospital job, which is really my passion to work in.

In the meantime since May I have worked as a screener for Dignity Health and now I am working as a Covid Case Investigator/Swabber for the county.

Are there any tips or advice anyone could offer that could help lead me in the right direction. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if I'm just having bad luck in the career department . Any help would be greatly appreciated.☺️

Most acute-care hospitals these days are now only hiring BSN RNs. If you need a job now, look into long term care, SNF, Sub-acute, long term acute care.  Try the VA and talk to your nurse manager in the unit you used to work in. See if any medical groups are looking to add an RN to their outpatient clinics.

While I'd agree that magnet hospitals only hire BSNs I wouldn't say that is the situation for the non-magnet facilities. Sure they'd like BSNs but they have a lot of ADN RNs on staff too.
