Im going to try to give cliffs -
Hired part time for CTICU
Trained in EKG, ECCO certified and general orientation lasted first 12 weeks.
Been on CT stepdown for around 6 weeks
Told there is no room in CTICU to train anyone and that I'd have to wait and it was better off to train on a stepdown so i can get my basics down pat.
Having tons of issues with blackmail and bullying on the floor
Verbal abuse from many of the nurses
No consistency as far as a preceptor so I run into issues with every nurse wanting me to do something a specific way when I was just taught another way my last shift.
Nurses talking to me like I'm a 5 year old - being disrespectful, yelling, constantly telling my manager what im doing wrong instead of praising me for ANYTHING ive done right
My manager is quite punitive toward me also. She is around every corner waiting for me to make a mistake
Im constantly told by my manager that the nursing assistants think I make them do all the "physical care" which is as far from the truth as it gets.
Multiple nurses told my manager I'm "disrespectful and think I'm better than them because ill be in CTICU".
Witnessed a few nurses verbally AND physically abusing my patients
Worried of losing my license god forbid I make a mistake or a nurse makes a mistake on my patient because they rarely help me.
Manager won't upgrade me to part time
Manager won't tell me when she plans to send me to ICU
Advice?
I forgot to add that my hospital has tons of outsourcing. There are many many part time and agency nurses. The NA's are from an agency and its a free for all for them as far as barely working and not being reprimanded. I knew this hospital wasn't top notch but I turned down a better hospital to get into CTICU here.

It sounds like a REALLY bad environment. I'd go to human resources and request to be moved to another unit. GL.

I agree about cutting your losses. What if the CTICU job was just a carrot to get you into step-down? The environment sounds toxic.
They tried to tell me that theyre doing me a favor by letting me be on stepdown for a while. I kind of agree with it but its been a while. The people who work in CTICU float up to stepdown sometimes and they ALWAYS ask why im not down there yet and that im going to have to unlearn a lot of things. I may try asking the recruiter about switching units. The other two new grads feel similar to me. One is looking for another job and the other is stuck there because of life circumstances.

Hi Shadowness,
I was curious about WCMC... i am scheduled to interview and wanted to know how the interviews went for you? What kinds of questions did they ask? It doesn't seem like you are too happy there now which makes me worried
