New Grad LPN Trying to find work in NYC

Published

Hello I am a new grad lpn , i graduated in april 2014 , I took my ny state boards in the end of june and passed the first time around and was licensed by june 2014. It has been 3months and I still haven't found any work and I so want to start my career and start gaining my experience but it seem that employers want 6months to 1year experience and it's like how do i gain the experience without anyone hiring me. Just wondering from other ny lpns where did they start off and how I can go about getting my foot in the door.

I'm originally from southern California and received my LVN training in Van Nuys. I relocated out of state to find my first job in nursing. This was back in 2005.

In today's employment market you must be flexible and willing to relocate away from glutted job markets if you want to come out on top. I realize that not everyone is willing to relocate or aggressively build a network to secure that first nursing job. However, the more adaptable you are, the better off you'll be.

I wish you the best of luck in your continued search.

Hey I live in Bk and I graduated last yr from lpn school...it took me about 3 months to find a good job. Some of my friends took 6 months. It's all up to how much u need this!! I started asking random ppl in da streets, once they had a scrub on!!!! I use to look at capitalist 5 times a day...I had an alarm to remind me to check for positions... go to open houses, even if u don't have the experience.... I had two job offerings and I had to choose one ..let me tell u before this I had no experience as a l.p. either.... there is an agency called quality care...it's some where in bk. I made a spreadsheet of nursing homes and would call at least 10 a day...also I subscribed to an online faxing service where I could easily fax my resume with my printer..saved me a ton of money and time ...good luck and be persistent
