New Grad- Labor & Delivery

Published

I am a junior BSN student,20 years old. I have worked in an OBGYN office as a "medical assistant" taking vitals, FHTs, UA's, basically just intaking patients.

My hope is to be a Labor and Delivery nurse right about of college. What are the odds of new grads getting jobs on the labor and delivery floor?

Also, if you know how much a new grad makes in L&D in either Indiana or New Jersey that would be helpful! Thank you!!

Specializes in Medsurg/ICU, Mental Health, Home Health.

I know in my area, new grads are no longer hired in L & D; however, I know a decent number of folks who were hired as new grads in NJ. This was ten years ago, though.

Specializes in Palliative, Onc, Med-Surg, Home Hospice.

The facility I work for hires new grads for an intern program in L&D. At times, it is easier to get in as a new grad than as an experienced nurse. I think it really depends on the area you live in
