I just got hired on an Oncology/tele/palliative care unit (I start on June 4th or when my IP comes!) and I don't know what to expect. I liked my oncology days in school, but they were in an outpatient setting so I know it'll be way different being with inpatients.
I've been working as a student nurse intern on an ortho/observation unit since December and I've been allowed to do everything an RN can do (only it didn't pay well and I was, of course, supervised) and I feel like I learned a lot, but.........
I'M STILL SCARED!

wow, it's like I wrote this post myself. I'm also a new grad. and starting to work on oncology/hematology unit May 22. I've done my internship on oncology and palliative floor and loved it but i'm also very scared starting my new job. It's in a new hospital and it's coming up soon. I find that looking in the different forums for tips on how to handle the first year in nursing gives me some comfort but other than that i'm just like you...sometimes I can't wait to start and then there are days where all I can think of is "what the hell did I get into??" so I know I didn't help much but here's a :icon_hug: and good luck to us both.

Reading the posts on this forum is very helpful. Let's me know that nurses of all levels have questions!
