New grad/greenville vs. raleigh

Published

Specializes in Med/Surg.

I am trying to decide where to apply here in North Carolina, because I originally was set on Pitt Memorial Hospital. I shadowed in their MICU, their SICU, their Ortho unit, and their high risk Labor/Delivery Unit. I loved the SICU and the Labor/Delivery. The Ortho Unit seemed it would be a great place to start. However, after applying I was offered a job in the MIU and a job in the Bariatrics/General Surgery unit. I have read that these units are chaotic and it makes me second guess accepting a position there. I am unsure of where else to apply or what step to take next. They are waiting on me to decide. I have not applied yet to Wake Med, in Raleigh, but at this point in time I am considering it because of the offers I was given and the negative feedback I have seen about the two positions I have been offered. I have only lived here for 3 years and so I am not very familiar with the area in general, but basically I live half way in between both of the facilities so I could technically drive either way.

Specializes in Cardiac Nursing.

I'll be starting on SIU at Pitt in June. I applied to Wakemed, and just recently got an email saying the internship I applied to was filled. I'm not familiar with the area at all as I haven't even found a place to live yet LOL. I'd call and find out what other units are accepting new grads and see what happens. It wouldn't hurt. You actually got to shadow on L&D? Lucky duck.

Specializes in Psych, LTC, Acute Care.

Take the job at Pitt. Wake med is no longer taking applications for May grads. I just got into the nurse fellows program at Wake myself and start April 20th but that after I was turned down for 6 other positions there. Your a new grad, get your foot in the door at Pitt. Not everyone starts out in their ideal position. Alot if grad at this point can't find jobs.

Specializes in Cardiac Nursing.

:yeahthat: It took me a year to get the offer I was given.

Specializes in Cath Lab, OR, CPHN/SN, ER.

Go with Pitt.

Even if you start and don't like the unit you're on, you're at least in the door. It's a HUGE hospital and you'll be more likely to get to a unit you like (but hey, you could also love the unit you're hired to).

Good luck.

Specializes in Cardiac,Progressive,Med-Surg,Hospice&Pal.
