Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses
Hi nesciree!!! i would just like to ask when did you applied for the registration?? i mean did you applied directly to AHPRA or were your papers submitted before the AHPRA office commenced??? were you the one who choose UNISA or did AHPRA suggested it to you??? These all I ask because I'm still waiting for my application which i sent last March 2010 and until I didnt get results yet... I applied for the Queensland Nursing council before so I was wondering if we are allowed to choose states where we will conduct our BP because my family are bound to Adelaide this january and I dont know if i am allowed to take up my BP there just in case they will approve my application....Thank you very much!
Hi try to contact APHRA or better call them. I believe QLD Nursing council wrote all their pending applicants prior national registration. I received mine last May. A friend of mine received his 2 months earlier. good luck
whoa there... so we can take this unisa route even without an ahpra letter?anybody here who successfully went through this option?
i do recall posting a seminar about unisa which was hosted by idp last november 5.
maybe you can still set an appointment with them for consultation.
they will even help you apply to the school and lodge your visa for free.:)
i also saw this post by jo227 about joining unisa maybe she can help us too!:)

i'll be taking up arntp at city east unisa...
I did not finish arntp from unisa. I had undergone BP in one of the hospital providers in Perth. ARNTP is different from BP. It was in place before the AHPRA came into effect. When AHPRA came into effect, it has to recognize the UNISA arntp pathway. arntp comes in between the Bridging program and Conversion course. Just like any conversion course, some universities do not require eligibility letters as long as you meet their entry requirement criteria.
But to make sure better contact unisa and if you do please share what they have to say about this. But based on their flyer, eligibility letters are not required.
Hi! Regarding ARNTP.. kindly check: University of South Australia - Program ARNTP, Australian Registered Nurse Training Program (2010)
Yes, you don't need APRHRA's eligibility letter as long as you meet their requirements: (University of South Australia-UNISA will be the one to assess your credentials)
*registration with the relevant Nurse's Registration Authority in own country or place of residence; and
diploma or degree in Nursing (minimum of 3 years full-time study) commensurate with the standard of nurse preparation required to register in Australia; and
recent practice (within the last 2 years) as a Registered Nurse.
Additionally, all international students entering the program must meet the following English Language Requirements:
Evidence of International English Language Testing System (IELTS) proficiency at IELTS - Academic: Overall band score of 7 with a minimum 7 score in reading, listening, writing and speaking
or
Occupational English Test (OET) for Nurses or Midwives: A minimum of B pass or greater in all four sections of the test OET (reading; writing; speaking and listening).
Graduates are eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
oh i just read the link jo227 has provided
fee information
fees for domestic students: enabling
fees for international students: $au 13,850 per 0.5 eftsl for students commencing in 2011.
fees are calculated on a per unit basis with 1.0 eftsl = 36 units.
fees for international students are determined one year in advance and are subject to variation.
fees for fee paying postgraduate students: $au 9,450 per 0.5 eftsl for students commencing in 2010.
fees are calculated on a per unit basis with 1.0 eftsl = 36 units.
from what i understood, it depends on the eftsl, and units varies from the courses you may choose to take. err i think i still dont get it, im so slow these days.
jo227 how much did you prepare for the whole thing, if you dont mind me asking? salamat :)
@javRN youre right, sir. and I just realized I lack 3 more months experience to qualify. lol
but people who have the means must consider it, just saying.
I wonder how are drednag, reiken, chocokat, moohmooh, anyad, and others... coping with their BPs now... hi everyone... any news from you guys?
good for you... if its ok to ask, did you present evidence of funds before the embassy of australia?? if so, may i know how much?? because I am also still waiting for my papers to be approved by AHPRA. Yup.it seems they do not require a letter from aphra to enroll on their ARNTP but it is better to contact them if they require one after completion. They require 2 years work experience though but volunteer is considered as long as it is written on your certificate that you work same as a staff nurse. I'm really interested but i'm 8 months short of the required experience
JavRN i think graduated from this program. not sure.
