New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

Hi everyone, been reading the thread for a while and got some questions.

1. The procedure and skills checklist being asked for the CV, do i use my schools checklist ( which may be incomplete, tried comparing it with some i see on the net ) or should I used the ones I find in the internet?

2. When sending my papers to an APHRA territory, which address do I send the one with P.O. Box or the building Address.

I'm just left in finalizing my CV and the Statement of service that needs to be redone because it doesn't say the details. I'm afraid might make mistakes and not get registered. Would need some help. Thanks.

1. If you already have an area of specialization, you can use the checklist for that, which is what I did. Otherwise, I think you can use a checklist that covers all the basic nursing skills.

2. I used the complete address, not the PO box.

I advise you to check your CV multiple times before submitting it, to avoid any delay. Good luck! :)

sp you worked here as an AIN?? did ahpra credit that exp? a friend of mine ahpra considered hers.. so i was wondering if you have the same case?

Yep, my working experience as an AIN was credited by AHPRA NSW. I think I read somewhere in the registration form guideline that any work which involves the application of nursing knowledge and skills will be credited (whether paid or not).

hi can anyone here tell me how the visa support letter from CON looks like? are they addressing the letter to the immigration or so? heaps of thanks ....

this is the exact wording of my visa support letter from CON:

Thank you for your application for Assessment of Competence Program No. 120 which commences on January 30, 2012 and completes on March 23, 2012. A position for you in this program is contingent upon you furnishing the College of Nursing with an appropriate visa 3 weeks prior to the scheduled commencement date. The visa must be valid for the entirety of the program.

Please understand participant numbers for each program are limited so placement into your chosen program may not be possible. Confirmation of you being placed into a program will be forwarded to you by mail.

Philippines to NSW (for CON's BP)... So i have to go to sydney airport right?

Yep, you have to get a Manila to Sydney flight. I booked with PAL. When I came back home (December 2011), I booked with China Airlines because it was the cheapest that I saw at that time.

guys... guys.. i need your opinion on this. should I or should I not present a job offer if I have one? they said they will prioritize people with job offers? do you think other than the date it can alter the result?

I think you should present it. It never hurts to have an over the top application rather than one which lacks essential documents. ^_^

Hi! Just to verify, so this support letter from CON will come from the school you're applying to? The LOE from APHRA?

Ey-em... may I ask if you already had a flight for Australia? May I ask what airline you use? I was looking for the cheapest but I read in the older post you can have connecting flights (via kuala lumpur) to make your flight cheaper... but it sounds complicated...

My first choice is PAL. You could get cheaper flights from other asian airlines (Malaysian, China, etc.) but I hate lay overs! Oh no wait, I LOATHE them! So I suggest go with PAL. Lol!

Yep, the letter of eligibility comes from whichever AHPRA office you submitted your application. The visa support letter is provided by the BP school. In CON's case, it is provided after paying the fees in full. I am not sure if you could get a visa support letter if you have any pending documents (like vaccine checks) that needs to be submitted.

Ah, thanks for that! I had no idea. lol. Right now, I'm still waiting nervously for the AHPRA thing. Haha.

Could you kindly share how long it took you to receive your CON? What documents should we prepare in anticipation of this CON? May I also inquire as to which school you'll be going to and why you chose it? :)

all of it goes in my tuition fee... ill be paying it all... and things here are expensive...

I feel you! All the money you get from work just goes to tuition (and in my case rent, food, etc). You do earn a lot but almost nothing is left. It's a vicious cycle. At one point I got really depressed with my "student visa" life in Sydney. It could really suck the life outta you. That's why I can't wait to have a working visa! LOL!

on that note we are somehow different.. coz Im a PR and company pays for almost all things.. the tuition is just too expensive. plus dont forget that im sending money to the Phils to support my siblings..

I submitted my application to CON's BP on the last week of Nov-1st week of Dec (sorry can't remember the exact date). I lodged my application personally to their office and also paid on the same day. After a few days, I got my visa support letter. I wasn't able to quickly take action about my visa application since I needed to be outside Australia when I lodge my application for the 456 visa. So I waited till I got back home in the Philippines to apply for my visa.

Documents? Let's see, of course you need to have your LOE. In my case, I got my LOE from AHPRA NSW. The letter has 2 parts/documents. The first stating that you are eligible for registration upon the satisfactory completion of a bridging program. The second document is a letter addressed to the Director (or something) of the College of Nursing which is basically endorsing you to them. 2 other important documents when applying for the BP of CON are your IELTS results and vaccine checks. Here is the link to the vaccination thingy guidelines for CON: http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/resources/publichealth/immunisation/ohs/pdf/info_2_checklist.pdf

I chose CON because I was living in Sydney at that time. And I think the fees were a bit cheaper compared to other BP schools (not sure on this).
