New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Specializes in Med-Surg / ICU / Aged Care.

Nov. 2009 got my Aus. license while here in the Phils.

Nov. 2009 to May 2010 ICU nursing trainee at a govt tertiary hosp. in Davao

June - July - finishing up some papers and BLS ACLS (AHA) training..

Aug. 2010 --- job hunting begins... in 2 weeks time got a position offered to me.. but it just took a bit long while of processing my employment due to many factors, the facility manager was a bit busy, problems with long distance phone communication.. etc.. but i was already offered the job, sure ball.. my other applications were unsuccessful, the usual reasons were, i dont have Australian setting experience, i dont have experience in Equip (quality control accreditation), some prefer ER experience (mine is ICU), 3 of the 5 health sector/area of NSW do not offer sponsorship.. etc. etc..

However, my case is different with you/others, so dont expect that you will experience same thing that i did.. remember im at a disadvantage because i did not undergo BP, you will undergo BP.. so you will have an edge during job hunting..

Sept. 14 (i think so), my 457 visa application was lodged.. 3 weeks after, got my approval and so by Oct. 16 got my passport with visa.. then the stressful process of getting OEC from POEA, whew! Frankly speaking, honestly, Australia did not give me stress, it is our own government that gave me stress, with that OEC.. what an irony... im not kidding, POEA OEC processing was the most stressful event in my pursuit for Oz RN license and work..

and then, i prepared myself by studying, and shopping using my credit card, and writing my last will and testament in case of you know (so morbid me, but thatz reality)..

Nov. 6, will be on flight from Davao to Manila to Sydney, will stay 2 nights in Sydney to have a picture in Sydney opera house (documentation and proof, of course), then will fly to the rural town nursing home on Nov. 9, and will start work on Nov.11...

I hope i will be able to quickly adjust, learn and master my job.. thatz what im praying now, otherwise, the credit card company might bury me alive, hehehe..

dont have laptop, and i guess no internet cafe in my workplace, so i will be silent and hibernating for a long long long while till i will be able to buy a laptop..

having said that, i wish all of you good luck with your applications..... it's been a long great ride for me for the past 2 years of targetting Oz nursing career.. and i should thank everybody who had helped (pardon me if i could not mention all of you), to name some.... javRN, Haoyin, ceridwyn, ryan09, chabeli, drednag. aelith(the original master), all of you who helped me in a big and small but important ways, THANK YOU.. WISH ME LUCK OF COURSE.. AND TO THE REMAINING WAITING ONES, just help one another..

See you later on after my reincarnation.... bye for now.. good luck to us...

..and that is really kind and generous of you cioman94..as well as the others who take time to reply..thanks!ü

well, my parents and cousin have decided that i will lodge a student visa [they insist that i choose student visa]..good luck to me..i hope it will be processed before jan. i don't even have an offer from the school yet..i'll see what happens..

abhylicious: you can check out la trobe, mercy health, victorian college of health and nursing, university of ballarat, ETEA, robinvale, castlemaine, deakin university...there's actually a list of schools, but if you intend to enroll in 2012 then the list might change by that time..unadunad posted the intake of different schools [which was really helpful] but it's for 2011..

..we'll all be in AU in God's time..ü

I already checked all the school's/hosp. from AHPRA...

La Trobe will be open on 2013

ETEA - open, I am waiting for their return call.

Robinvale, Castlemaine and Alpine health - not sure, I'm waiting for their return call

Deakin - not offering the bridging on January, next intake is on May

VCHN - they are open...

St. Vincent, Royal Women's, West Gippsland are not offering the bridging...

I wan't to take the bridging program on a reputable school. Any suggestions? I prefer Deakin, my housemate done her BP there and it was good. She got a sponsorship on her placement..
