New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

Where will the line be drawn.....many Australian nurses would not pass the test either without training, which is probably the case with the nurses from the uk....I refuse to go to that website, but put them in an emergency situation they would understand perfectly from many of the different 'accents' that many of our international doctors and patients.

I know I have been in a poor outcome clinical situation over an international nurse not understanding a verbal command in an emergency situation.

While you keep comparing to english speaking natives and claim your right to do away with an english test to work here there are other nurses from your country and other non english speaking countries, that speak english badly and understand badly even though they claim to have been taught in english.

Good evening nurses :nurse::nurse::nurse:

Could anyone help me with my query please :heartbeat

Its more than a month now that i am waitng for my letter from AHPRA, and i am expecting it (optimistic) that i will receive my eligibility letter either october or november. So while waiting for it, Can i send my application to schools for BP?? Is their schools anywhere in OZ that would still check and assess and fortunately will give a slot for next year? I badly need to take the earliest intake for 2012..

And another thing, Do you know any school that has BP on Feb,March or Apri;l 2012? If i cannot get a slot on Jan next year at least i could apply for the following months..

Hope anyone here could enlighten me :redpinkhe

Thank you so much and God bless you

This has been said many times before......nurse education institutions are not suppose to send an international nurse applicants into a clinical situation without them having been tested in english. It is a legal nightmare outthere if a clinical incident should occur with patient care compromised the hospital and the school would be taken to court with or without the letter from AHPRA,

Also and this is the big one.....there is no way can you be offered (if you find one) a sponsored visa without your IELTS. Even plumbers and electricians are tested in english before they can work in Australia and many of them have had some sort of english education.

AHPRA was very wrong in allowing this assessment as they had no control on the type of 'english education" that was provided by non english speaking countries and another big one.....you have never nursed using strictly english medium.

IhNa does specify IELTS 7 is required to be a candidate...I know that with 'Gods will' you will find a way and have lots of hopes and dreams but the reality is courses are filling up and IELTS is required by both bp schools and to purcue a sponsored visa's. and jobs are filling fast.... seems alot of time and effort just to avoid it, when having it opens both bp school and chance for a job and therefore a visa.

Thanks Ceridwyn. You have a valid point there... but if you are in our situation where you come from a third world country and is scratching a living, you'll try to exhaust all means possible to save a few bucks. Let's take for example I have already taken the IELTS but the problem is all the intakes are full and let's say that it's in late 2013 that I am able to enroll in a BP school (this happened to me in 2009 when I don't have the resources, such as this forum, internet and experienced friends to make myself knowledgeable about the "ins and outs" of applicaton). Then that means that I have to retake the IELTS again, right? My point is, I'll try. If not then, "if you can't beat 'em join 'em." That's why it really pays to call directly and inquire at AHPRA or at BP schools because you would really get first hand information and not just hearsay (unsolicited advice to my fellow applicants).

Yes, I agree, it seems that I have to take IELTS according to this new media release http://www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/News/Media-Releases.aspx

But if ever I passed the IELTS, it does extend its validity longer than my BP eligibility. And don't blame AHPRA. No organization is perfect. That's why policies changes over time.

The reason why they allowed English as medium of instruction certification form university/college was because of an incident I heard (cannot verify this) that an OZ citizen went to school in UK and when he returned he cannot work because he needed to take IELTS.

I have previously posted schools offering BP program. The best thing to do is to find out yourself by calling them. I'm planning to do the same thing too. There is this "Todo IDD" from suncellular where you'll be charged of only P5/min. A P100 peso load could give you tons of information already. Be sure to know the time zone of the place you are calling and call within office hours. Otherwise, you'll lose some of your load with a voice machine on the other end.;) But, I think it's better to wait for the eligibility letter first.

Hehehehe. There is no sense in arguing here guys. There are many ways to kill a cat. I agree with you both here. The point is not about fairness as far as English language competence is concerned. However a person might be able to get to point Z is entirely up to him. But if we must talk about fairness here, I would also question the bp requirement altogether. I strongly believe that our educational system is as good as the other countries exempt from the bp. But, again, it's not up to me to question nor complain. I want to go work as an RN in Australia and they require all these prerequisites for registration, PERIOD. So, I will follow all that they require to the letter. No ifs and buts about it. But if you or anyone else find all these requirements totally unfair and unnecessary, hey, everyone is free to apply somewhere else. :lol2:

Some of my e-mails they replied, some they didn't. But if you want a sure reply, use this AHPRA enquiry form: https://www.ahpra.gov.au/about-ahpra/contact-us/make-an-enquiry.aspx

Thanks HepB. Will do that first thing tomorrow.

Thanks again.

Its okay reesepano ;)

You sent the school an email to inquire if you could still apply for their BP, right? What did the IHNA respond to your email? So is it possible to apply schools for bp without the letter from ahpra?

i dont think so, but its like giving them a heads up that your aphra is coming & showing your interest that you want to have your BP in their institution :)
