New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

AHPRA-WA is way too fast in their processing. I lodged my application July 7 and I received eligibility letter last September 8. Praise the Lord!

It's an answered prayer because I did not take IELTS. I only supplied a certification from my secondary and tertiary schools that the medium of instruction was English. But I think this loophole (if indeed a loophole) was patched up just recently with a new advisory that AHPRA released on September 19 specifically mentioning English speaking countries as exemptions. AHHH! I visited a forum in UK and they are very ecstatic. Imagine, they are native speakers but they get flunked on Reading and Writing. Some say they even took IELTS 5 to 6 times already. Unfair? I don't thinks so. We need such hurdles to make us more equipped in foreign lands. This just shows that Pinoys have the English skills comparable to some of our English native friends.Anyway, at least I will take IELTS after my BP. That way my English will be honed while undergoing the program... plus I don't have to worry my IELTS will get expired AGAIN for the third time.

The problem we have with a new IELTS advisory is that the competition becomes stiffer. I hope our fellow Pinoys ahead of us have smoothed our way by their "TLC." We do have a gift in the way we care for our patients... this is one thing that technology cannot duplicate...

I'm planning to apply at IHNA-Victoria. Originally, my first choice was in Hollywood Private Hospital in Perth (only $4000 tuition fee) but they are requiring IELTS regardless of AHPRA approval. And besides, my relatives are staying in Victoria. I'd be able to save lots of dollars if I stay with them.

Just like you, I can't do PM yet, need to do at least 15 posts.:D So as for now I cannot divulge my e-mail address publicly.

Try to apply online at VCHN and they'll send you details with application form. It goes the same with other BP schools

Hi HepB! May I just ask if AHPRA WA usually responds to their applicant's email? Because I sent them an email two weeks ago regarding the additional requirement that they ask and no reply yet from their end.. How many days would it take them to answer your emails?

Thanks much!

WOW that is really great HepB..Congrats to you :yeah::yeah::yeah:

After you lodge your application to WA, did they ask you for an additional requirements?

I sent mine last July 26, and received my receipt thru email plus they asked me some add req such asa syllables and theoretical and clinical units. From then on, i have not receive any email from them. It is more than one month now that i am waiting for a very positive reply from them.

Hopefully i can have mine soon..:nurse:

Got this from this website pomsinoz

"I have done the IELTS 5 times getting a 6 or a 6.5.

This couldn't come at a better time of receiving today the 5th result of 6.5 Reading.

Just paid for on line course £38 for nothing now, what a waste.

But great news fantastic, watch us all leave the UK now! lol

NHS is going to have a mad exodus of nurses leaving! lol

Never been happier."

This is what I'm telling about that the competition becomes stiffer and tougher.

This has been said many times before......nurse education institutions are not suppose to send an international nurse applicants into a clinical situation without them having been tested in english. It is a legal nightmare outthere if a clinical incident should occur with patient care compromised the hospital and the school would be taken to court with or without the letter from AHPRA,

Also and this is the big one.....there is no way can you be offered (if you find one) a sponsored visa without your IELTS. Even plumbers and electricians are tested in english before they can work in Australia and many of them have had some sort of english education.

AHPRA was very wrong in allowing this assessment as they had no control on the type of 'english education" that was provided by non english speaking countries and another big one.....you have never nursed using strictly english medium.

IhNa does specify IELTS 7 is required to be a candidate...I know that with 'Gods will' you will find a way and have lots of hopes and dreams but the reality is courses are filling up and IELTS is required by both bp schools and to purcue a sponsored visa's. and jobs are filling fast.... seems alot of time and effort just to avoid it, when having it opens both bp school and chance for a job and therefore a visa.

Imagine that even Native English speakers have difficulty getting 7 on all sub tests.

It's quite interesting to read this link: pomsinadelaide
