New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Anybody doing the next upcoming BP in La Trobe? If you're seeking accommodation arrangements let me know.

Hello Everyone,

First, I would like to thank every single person who has spent some time to post valued information on this thread. It has been very useful guys:yeah:, thanks a lot!!

Now, I would like to beg your attention to help me choosing the right BP. I have applied for the October intake at Hollywood Private Hospital in WA due to the affordability ($4.000). However, I received a call from their office last Friday, stating that they received 186 applications to fill only 25 places in. Besides, these places will be "shared" among Overseas Registered Nurses and Australian Nurses desiring to come back to practice. So, it is more than obvious they will give preference to those who are citizens. It means my chances to get in are minimums.

While waiting for their "application review and evaluation", I have decided to come up with a B plan which would consist of applying else where. Does not matter which state! The only issue is I am not prepared to pay $12.000 + living expenses. So I have to choose very wisely!

It would be very helpful if you guys can share some information on BP. Dates?? Which ones are affordable and good, if they offer any accommodation, or if there is any cheap accommodation close by so I can save money on transport, etc.

I would love to get it done by the end of this year, so If you can help in this matter, it would be very appreciated.

Thanks,

Good luck for all of us!

Hi Doodz,

I am also new here! Have you find the answers for your questions?? I think we have the same concerns. Let me know if you already decided which BP you are going to take. Maybe we can go together!! ;)

I have some information about cheap accommodation ($110 per week) close by the facility for 2 colleges (Melbourne and Adelaide). Let me know if you wanna some information about it.

Good luck!

Anybody doing the next upcoming BP in La Trobe? If you're seeking accommodation arrangements let me know.

Hi there,

I would like to inquiry some information about accommodation, in case of I chose taking my BP in La trobe,

Thanks

Hi Everyone,

Can somebody enlighten me about my case? I have received my eligibility letter from AHPRA Victoria earlier this month. My case officer emailed me an advanced copy. I immediately applied with CON. However, CON emailed me back because they want a clarification from the AHPRA letter I got instructing me to enroll in a bridging program for nurses. They said my registration doesn't say whether it is for registered nurse (div 1) or enrolled nurse (div 2). My letter just says "Registration - Nurse".

I immediately emailed my case officer regarding this and she has not responded yet. I was hoping to get in the Sept intake of CON but this AHPRA letter seems to be vague, to say the least.

In my email to my case officer, I mentioned that I applied for registered nurse (div 1). And the qualifications I have is of a University Bachelor's Degree. She even asked for the TOR from my previous Bachelor of Arts course before finally giving me my AHPRA letter of eligibility.

I keep on emailing her and trying to call the AHPRA hotline. The call operators were kind of helpful enough to say that they will inform her through email and voice mail. My case officer never has answered any of my phone calls although she mentioned in the emails and formal letters to not hesitate to call her for any other questions and clarifications from my end.

I am positive that based on the AHPRA guidelines, my qualifications are or a registered nurse (div 1). But it is baffling that their letter would only say "Registration - Nurse".

Anyone on the same predicament as I am?

Anyone who's off to CON this September? Kindly PM me thanks..

me!me!me! at first i planned to take the bp at etea this aug, but wasnt able to get a slot so i opt to go to CoN instead this Sept, because I really need to finish the BP this year...so, see you sweet_toothRN, Lithotomy and ajos asi at CoN =)

sorry i do not have much time to give detailed answers to your queries... i'll give you direct answers:

1) it is a migraine headache to get a slot in a BP/CAP schools in NZ.. nobody will bet when can you get one, if you can get one..

2) all the pathways or options you mentioned above are possible.. you can choose any of them as you like.. basic question/goal is: from Manila, i want to go to the Bicol region.. do you want to go to Bicol directly or do you want to go to Ilocos region first then proceed to Bicol.. do you want to ride a motorcycle or airplane going to Bicol... if you want to travel fast straight to Bicol, then hop into a plane flying directly to Bicol (not via Ilocos)..

you want to become a Aus. RN and later become PR here? direct/simple way is to send application at AHPRA, then enrol in a BP school... you want the hard way, then enrol in cert III then IV, or go to NZ, and this and that..

3) 3 months visa? everybody goes through this road.. they all survived, either they were able to apply for visa extension, or able to find job prior visa expiry, or just go back home and search job online at home..

4) reality however is, as what ceridwyn had warned, things are not really as rosy now as compared before.. the job market here is competitive already.. Australia was RNs heaven 2-3 years ago..

5) 3 months volunteer/training/employed experience as an RN (CI, hospital, clinic, barangay health center)..

wow. thanks a lot for an honest advice. the things i said might sound stupid (and it is stupid) but for a beginner i would not consider myself brainless. a good nurse is the one who asks questions rather than pretend he/she knows everything right? :lol2: even how stupid the question maybe :lol2: at least now i know what is right. hehe

I already ask the IDP what possible courses i should take, i told them that i am a degree holder in nursing and their representative suggested i enroll in a nursing course which is 2 years. would there be a problem about this when i apply for a visa? would they question why am i interested in studying the same course the second time? (just asking again, im not throwing away the BP option granted i would pass the NLE, im a fresh grad and took the July exam, i still have to wait until the results arrive, praying for a positive one)

thanks again cioman94. ur such a big help to amateurs like me. :yeah: :heartbeat :yeah:

hmmm really? i thought consulting with the IDP is not free of charge. or is it in a case to case basis? :coollook: were you here in the Phils when u applied for ur student visa or in another country?

Just arrived 3 weeks ago :)

Better call IDP and ask for an appointment to one of their counselors. Totally free of charge! No worries, the school will pay them. What course your planning to take?

To Miss Mawing:

why they are telling you to do the 2 year bachelor of nursing is because you do not have a license in your own country. If you are a registered nurse in your own country then you can apply to be assessed to AHPRA direct and hopefully are asked just to do the bridging course for RN's. Going to university for 4 semesters as international student is a massive amount of Australian dollars. about 18,000 a year,, ends up 36,000 for two years, when you can be assessed and pay 10-12,000 for bridging?

and yes, they love giving visa's to students to do university courses even if you have done the same thing back home. Its just the short vocational courses they can question sometimes, when you already have a higher qualification in that field because it is obvious you are doing it just to enter Australia for sometime on a student visa.

to others...

as ive said before, it is really really hard to get into Hollywood Private Hospital program.. having said this, if anyone tries to apply there, might as well immediately prepare for plan B, because the chances are really slim of being accepted in said hospital..

good luck to all..

Anyone on the same predicament as I am?

pre, the CON staff has a history of decreased LOC... at one point, they do not accept referral letter from AHPRA (Vic,Wa,Qld,SA), when in fact they should, and we know it first here that they should accept it but they do not know yet! ...

anyway, your letter is correct... if it is division 2, it should have said "enrolment".... forgive CON's delayed understanding... just seek clarification from ahpra as you have did, and just pray that they will reply asap.. but you are on the right side... remember, god makes you weak or face some problem in order for you to realize how much you need him (via praying).. thatz why we pray..
