Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses
Probably because there are more applications sent in their office than the rest. I also sent additional documents a week ago and tried emailing my registration officer for an update but I got no reply yet. It has been more than 5 months already. Maybe we just have to wait for a little. Others here receive their eligibility letter after 7 months of waiting.By the way, where are you planning to take your BP?
Looks like we're on the same boat here. Care to share who your registration officer is? Kinda thinking that assessment/processing speed and efficiency vary depending on case managers too. My registration officer hardly replies to my inquiries.
Anyway, I'm considering Mercyhealth, CON, Deakin for bp. or whichever institution will take me. hehe. How about you? Are you starting to prepare your application docs for BP?
in my 3 years here, nobody admitted he/she was totally denied.. the only instance i can confirm is that one or two of the previous members' application here were downgraded to EN..your reg. officer's question.. they just ask question so that you will feel that they are working on your application and then you continue waiting again (hehehehe errr, just kidding mate... don't worry about that question, just answer it honestly, that's all.... don't lose sleep on it...).
thanks cioman94. It's quite a relief to know that additional nursing educ isn't really a requirement and was only asked to appease my restlessness due to the long months of waiting...and then I wait again. wahaha! I wonder what the next question would be. I hope it would already be a decision because I not only lose sleep, I am losing my mind here already!
thanks for the warm welcome mhai :)whats keeping me from applying for eligibility from AHPRA is that the birding course is only given 3 months visa. Given that i would gain enough experience before my application, if ever i would finish the BP but worst case scenario fail the assessment, then i would be forced to leave the country. is there any way to extend my stay there, what visa to apply?
what if i enroll for a certificate III for example nursing (aged care) that is for 6 months i think, then enroll again for the certificate IV, would that be a good option? and if given the chance after completing the course, i would land a nursing home job and acquire as skilled temporary permit visa (not sure yet if aged care is qualified for this type of visa) then thats the time that i would plan again about the bridging program. i know this is going to be a long long way until i will be able to gain an AUS RN registration but still taking it into a consideration if ever this is possible.
my other option is to go for schooling in NZ. maybe follow the procedure i planned for australia (if ever possible). i heard that it is easier to apply for a NZ residence. and since NZ is a sister country of Aus and having a PR visa in NZ can provide u eligibility to work and stay in Aus indefinitely through the trans-tasman mutual arrangement (i guess, correct me if im not
![]()
is it a PR visa or only NZ citizenship that would give u eligibility to do the such).
another question, is a skilled worker eligible to apply for a resident visa in NZ?
to many questions
needed to be answered. im sorry for being so inquisitive.
thanks for all the future replies. love love love :heartbeat :heartbeat
sorry i do not have much time to give detailed answers to your queries... i'll give you direct answers:
1) it is a migraine headache to get a slot in a BP/CAP schools in NZ.. nobody will bet when can you get one, if you can get one..
2) all the pathways or options you mentioned above are possible.. you can choose any of them as you like.. basic question/goal is: from Manila, i want to go to the Bicol region.. do you want to go to Bicol directly or do you want to go to Ilocos region first then proceed to Bicol.. do you want to ride a motorcycle or airplane going to Bicol... if you want to travel fast straight to Bicol, then hop into a plane flying directly to Bicol (not via Ilocos)..
you want to become a Aus. RN and later become PR here? direct/simple way is to send application at AHPRA, then enrol in a BP school... you want the hard way, then enrol in cert III then IV, or go to NZ, and this and that..
3) 3 months visa? everybody goes through this road.. they all survived, either they were able to apply for visa extension, or able to find job prior visa expiry, or just go back home and search job online at home..
4) reality however is, as what ceridwyn had warned, things are not really as rosy now as compared before.. the job market here is competitive already.. Australia was RNs heaven 2-3 years ago..
5) 3 months volunteer/training/employed experience as an RN (CI, hospital, clinic, barangay health center)..
hello,i'm new here.i just received my referral letter from AHPRA NSW the other day.i'm planning to take the bridging program at CON NSW on September.can I still make it?
hello dimpled nurse. I rang CON and the lady coordinator said the august and sept intakes are already full. I had been on the waiting list due to my delayed visa. Anyway, she says they could open another class this September if the waiting list reaches the quota. Try to contact them or better yet send your application to them now.
I am asking fellows who are desperately yearning to finish their BP this year to do the same.:) I been contacting other BP providers and all intakes are already full except for next year.
Hi all. I'm new to this forum and it's been a very interesting read. a cousin of mine (who's a nursing grad with no hospital experience) applied for a student visa in australia through an agency here in the philippines (she wouldn't tell me the name).. they really spent a lot of money (I think about 2M, including the proof of funds) but she says that she'll be taking up a 6 month business course in Accountancy then shift to a nursing course after that would take 1 year. Does anybody know if this is legitimate?? It makes me wonder why she has to take a business course first and if this nursing course she would take would enable her to convert her student visa to working visa or PR if ever?? any answers would be much appreciated. Thank you.. :)
it so happen the answer to your question is the same as what i posted above (prior to this post, my reply to miss wawing)..
yes, that accountancy thing is legitimate... again, i want to go to Bicol directly, not via Ilocos.. why hassle yourself..
if i am the agency, i will sell to you the "product" from which i could earn more.. i earn more, selling you that "accountancy" thing then later nursing thing.. that's what agencies are doing.. it is business, not public service..
in this forum, you'll receive sarcastic comments like the one from me, but it is a frank honest answer and free.. no strings attached..

Here's what I did:
1. Download their application form found on their website. Fill them up with a pen (since it's in pdf format and we can't edit or fill in the blanks).
2. Scan your NBI clearance and front page of your passport.
3. Scan your filled-up application form.
4. Email the lady from CON and attach your scanned requirements. If you have received your eligibility letter by email, attach it as well.
Then she'll email you back when she has already received 'em and will instruct you on how to pay from overseas. Yes I left the part for 'payment options' blank coz I wasn't sure at first on how to pay the fee.
i finally received my referral letter from AHPRA last thursday. i sent my pre registration at AHPRA QLD and it took me 4 months from lodging my application to receiving the letter.
i am considering Mercy, CON, or IHNA as my BP school since these schools still has an intake before the year ends. i also plan to get the help of IDP since it is free to at least lessen the trouble of the application process to any of these schools.
i've been there last February and yeah according to them, their assistance is free of charge. dont get me wrong, this forum is a great help but i think IDP can answer our questions directly so in a way it fastens our application process since we do not have to wait for answers to any of our enquiry.
also by doing so, we can meet our future "BP classmates" which again is advantageous not only because we already know people before we set our foot in Australia but also because we can share the accomodation expenses during our BP program and who knows we can also help each other during the employment process after our BP
