New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

Hi guys, I need help from your point of views. The school I want to take my BN (P) and IRON program is not listed on the approved course list nursing on the AHPRA Website. Does that mean that if I finish my desired programs there that I wouldn't be registered in Australia as a nurse? I don't understand. If that's the case, then what's the point of opening such school and allowing overseas nurses to take that program? Thank you.

what school? i'll check it. try asking NMBA too. i will only do the BP/IRON to get my nursing registration. i don't have to do the BNP

It's William Light Institute in Adelaide. I get it already, it is affiliated with University of Ballarat, and UB is there on the approved courses.

HI EVERYONE!!!

I JUST WANT TO ASK. IM CONFUSED. IN OTHER FORUMS, THEY'VE SAID THAT SCHOOLS NOW ARE NOT DOING THE BRIDGING PROGRAM ANYMORE, WHILE SOME SAY THERE ARE STILL SCHOOLS THAT OFFER THE COURSE. WHICH IS TRUE? AND ALSO, WHO HAS ANY IDEA ABOUT SCHOOLS THAT STILL OFFER BRIDGING COURSES??? :clown:

~ PLS. ENLIGHTEN ME. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

hi girlash.. Congratulations for having a slot at vhcn.. I would just like to ask.. Did u get a 456 visa? If so, how much money did u have to show in your bank account? Tnx!!

what does vhcn stands for and does it still accept bp courses and how much? Thank you! :)

I will start by BP at VHCN this Jan 3 2011. Anyone in the same batch?

WHAT DOES VHCN STANDS FOR? AND DOES THIS SCHOOL STILL HAS THE bp COURSE AND HOW MUCH? THANKS :)

hi cioman, thank you for the reply. well BN(P) is the Bachelor of Nursing Post Registration right? Which gives you a degree in nursing in Australia, cause most of us only have nursing degrees from our schools here in the philippines, and the BN(P) program does not need assessment from AHPRA, so I can go there already to study while waiting for my eligibility letter from AHPRA. makes sense? =)

You're in Adelaide, SA right? have you heard of William Light Institute? Do you have any feedback about that school? I think it is much smaller than UniSA and Flinders. Thank you!

makes sense yes if such applicant/student has money to spend for BN(P), but i assume most of us do not have that much moolah then it makes sense to get IRON quickly as to save on cost.. hence it will depend on money and personal choice..

RN OZ1 is in Adelaide, she might be able to help you.. Ive never heard of that school before but it doesn't mean adverse, ya know i dont knw everything, one thing im sure of is the San Mig Light institute..

the bp is on 25 april 2011. i am very hesitant and i still have time to back out. what if i can't get work after? it's very difficult for a second class person in oz

careful with socio-political comments, e.g. 2nd class person.. :)

It stands for victorian college of health and nursing. Yes they offer BP courses. Please refer to this website for further details: http://www.vchn.vic.edu.au.

Cheers!

so u are already working in oz? how long did u have to wait to land a job after BP?? im in such dilemma, so much is at stake! thanks much!

Hi Everyone,

I've been reading the posts here and am very thankful to those who really shared information. I would like to ask for anyone's opinion on my case.

I have sent my application to AHPRA Dec 6, 2010. A week later, I also sent my PRC verification of good standing and my IELTS results.

I got an email confirmation from AHPRA Jan 13, 2011 that they have received my application. It also said they will just email me for any further documentary requirements. If none, they will grant me my eligibility.

I received my credit card bill that I used to pay for the application fee but as of Jan. 24, 2011, the fee was still not posted.

While I submitted my application to AHPRA, I also inquired from different BP schools regarding their intakes and requirements for enrollment.

I was surprised that VCHN responded positively and asked that I email them the documentary requirements. I told them that I still am waiting for my eligibility letter from AHPRA.

To make the long story short, VCHN accepted me to their IRON / BP program for March 28, 2011 even without my AHPRA letter.

My questions are the following :

1. Should I accept their offer and pay the tuition fee immediately even without the AHPRA letter?

2. Will the DAIC accept my visa 456 application only with a confirmed enrollment with VCHN and not having the AHPRA letter?

3. Or should I wait for the AHPRA letter since I think I still have enough time before March 28 intake begins?

4. What if I still won't get my AHPRA letter by early March? (The next intake at VCHN is May 6 I think)

I hope someone can share their opinion about my dilemma.

One other thing I would like to share with those who don't have work experience at all is this :

My niece was able to enroll in a BP program last Sept. She got her license 2nd week of January. She was able to get a good employer who was willing to sponsor her working visa (The company paid for all the filing fees).

Since she was considered a new graduate, the company sponsored her 2 week training all expenses paid. Since she is based in Melbourne and the training is in Sydney, the company flew her there and billeted her in a nice hotel and gave her $80/day as meal and transpo allowance. At the end of the first week, the company flew her back to melbourne and flew her back again to Sydney for the 2nd week of training. She will start her employment in the nursing home near Melbourne this Feb. 21.

To all those who are trying to catch their Ozzie dream, don't be scared. My niece is just 22 years old turning 23 later this week. She didn't even have any work or volunteer experience. Yet she is now going to get employed in Oz.

As for me, I hope somebody can advice me on my case.

I hope the story of my niece will encourage the others who might be hesitant in trying.

God bless to all of us!!

got the letter from aphra yesterday finally after 7 months.. now the hunt for bridging course begins :)

did i mention before that i applied thru aphra qld? and that it was a huge dilemma for me considering that there is no bp yet in qld, the good news is, it is anticipated that a bridging course will be available early this year..it makes me even happier! just a prefect b-day gift for me, hehe.. yeah today's my bday! have a great day everyone..

Got mine too last Feb 7! (Feb 7 is not my birthday though :D)..Have you heard of any news as to the BP that Queensland will be opening? I emailed AHPRA QLD but didn't get a reply yet..
