Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses
It was taking Australian new grads 2-3 months from the end of the academic year which was from November. Which was a real worry to many as they had grad years lined up to start in January and they all had put in pre-registration papers before they finished their degree just like bp nurses having assessment then completing bp then showing completed education.
Ceridwyn,
Would you have the link to the pre-registration papers that you speak of?
Based on what you said.. while doing bp we can submit these forms and then advice Ahpra when BP is over? will this in any way hasten the processing as compared to not completing the pre-registration forms? thanks:nurse:
The pre-registration papers I spoke of in the post was for Australian graduates only....though when you apply to AHPRA it is the same thing, they assess your education advise to do bp and leave your application open, awaiting advice that you have completed the bp, then wait until they register you same as Australian student applies that they are at blah blah university and completing and as soon as they complete the university lets AHPRA have the completion okay....welll thats what happened with NBV.
This is different to bp students as it is up to them to get the completion of bp to AHPRA
Unfortunately, there is no short cut in the registration process with AHPRA local nor international, though you would hope locals got preference.
UNISA offers a bp course that can be completed before any contact with AHPRA, though I doubt very much that they would accept any papers from an international nurse until you completed this course. Though I would imagine that registration after completing this course would take longer due to the fact that AHPRA have not assessed your international nurses training nor checked on any other requirements, so after this course you may be waiting just that bit more to get registered with AHPRA. Though maybe you could apply for registration while doing the course and then, voila, have your bp course completion as soon as assessed.
ps to those who call it a license in Australia (very US term)...we call it our nurses registration certificate.
Men, if you will tell me that you are willing to work in Torres Islands or in Christmas Island then you will find job after BP.. but if you are artistic ("ma-arte"), then you will find difficulty EXCEPT if you have an excellent resume..take note however, that the searching and processing time is longer now as compared to before.. so you may be "forced" to leave/back in phils. NOT BECAUSE you cannot find a job BUT because you cannot YET find a job.. see the difference..
cheers!
okay thank you for this
Hey guys for those who have submitted their papers to AHPRA and were already given approval/recommendation letters, who had the shortest 'waiting time'?
Kye09 waited for 7 months (btw, belated happy birthday to you!). I'm wondering if others received theirs sooner. Thanks! Gosh how I missed this thread :)

so does this mean that australian graduates have less time to wait for their nurse registration certificate than those undergoing BP? So 456 visa holders will really have to go home and wait for the registration certificates there.
