New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

migration processing because by that time my license would expire and they have stricter requirements for renewal under the new national registration scheme..

Hey there!

forgot about expiring licenses. Worst case, you can't find a job, had to go home, tried applying to no avail... how long do you keep your nursing license? what do you think the requirements are to renew it?

thanks:)

Hey, Reiken and Newmac...have you processed your visas already, dudes?

Is there already news about the national registration this July?

Yeah, it is going to happen,

I really think you guys are putting our nurses board to the test,, this is a government organisation that is winding down....unllike other states that have stopped a month ago processing overseas applications they the NBV have kept going for some reason. My organisation has recently moved into another building and it took all our resources to do that.....for people to keep ringing them, even domestic residents have held back due to their workload.

If you are worried about your application not being processed by June 30th, they can only do, with what resources they can do. Maybe applications should have been made several months ago. As this was decided and put into law, March 2008!!!

The only nurses board that publicly states what will happen to overseas applications for their board (which would be the same for NBV) states all outstanding overseas applications will be transferred to the new NMBA. It is the Tasmanian board here is the link:

Incomplete Applications Update

another link to pdf file from nurses board NT lookk at page 6 says all outstanding applications need not re apply will be considered automatically under the new national law, may need to send more information.

Lots of questions about programs for nurses with no post grad experience, in Victoria most of the big and country hospitals use the PMCV which is a data matching site. If you are not eligible, ie not Australian permanent resident or kiwi, it states you can apply after all have been offered, they will show positions vacant at what hospital: here is the link for that

if the new board will not commit error with my license, it will expire 30 April 2011, subsequently, all nursing license will expire in one year every 30th of May.. the major requirement needed is the 20 CPE units.. I could not acquire that units if im here in phils., thus, must be there in Oz to obtain the 20 hours/units prior license expiry..

Hello people! I'm back. Now. I'm done with the IELTS and passport. What's the next best thing to do while waiting for my IELTS result. Until now I'm undecided what school to choose or if I'll take BP or conversion. Do I have to choose immediately so that I can do the next step. Or can I do something else for my application while waiting and thinking?

hello, im sorry, i wanna comment but i dont know exactly at what phase are you now in your application, i mean, have you already sent your assessment application to a nursing board (and just waiting), or you already have an approval from a nursing board, or you have not yet send any assessment application to a nursing board?? which is which..

anyway, if you have not yet send assessment application, better hold on it and wait for July 01 under the new national registration scheme, to make your application clean and clear under the new rules..

good luck..

I have never sent any documents yet. I just got my passport and waiting for my IELTS result. From your suggestion,I guess I really have to wait for July first.
