New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Specializes in ER,med surg, nursing home.

Hello fellow RN'S

Good News! Got my Job offer April 8

Employer applied for nomination April 9 e-lodgement...

Hi! RN oz1, we so happy for you so with your family. When did you start your application to NMBWA? For the bridging program, and when were you given a slot (RPH or HPH)? did you start from the Phil. or in Australia when you apply for it? Coz, actually I am planning to take my BP there in Perth. NMBWA already okayed my requirements but the ielts I have to furnish the 7.0 score. That's the only thing I lacked. Please, your inputs will be much appreciated. PM is okay for me. Thank you and God bless you. Good luck to you and your family.:)

hello, I'm new and I've read most of the posts here.. I already applied in QNC, I submitted my papers last Nov 2009 and I got my letter about two months after saying that they're processing it. By end of march, I got the letter telling me I'm eligible but has to show competence. They're not offering any bridging programs anymore and my only options are to hold, withdraw or go on an undergraduate program... I;m willing to wait for the July admin, but really, if there is a faster way, I would really grab it.

I've been working here in the Phil as a med/surg nurse for almost 2 yrs now and the pay is not really good. So i'm really hoping for greener pasture...

I read about curtin-- but I don't have that much money.

I'm hoping for a bridging program, and I read about ETEA.. DO I have to submit another set of requirements to what state? do I have to do it before applying to etea or can I just go straight to etea? im confused

it would really mean much.

hi, ramsy, etea is an accredited bridging course provider under nurses board of victoria. you have to apply for assessment from nbv. there are a number of other course providers once you have the letter advising you to take the bridging course.

for nmbwa: curtin, vchn are among those offering bridging course...curtin's bp is for 1 year while vchn's bp is 3 months.

for nbv: etea, deakin, la trobe, alpine health, castlemaine...i think they are all for 3 months

go ahead and submit the requirements for each state, im sure you will be able to get a letter of eligibility.:yeah:

i wish you all the best!:up::up:

I just read your pm now. It may be too late but you can email me at [email protected]. I am still not allowed to reply to your pm. I will explain to you about CSW there.

Thank you guys for posting very useful information for nurses who opt for Australia!

I would just like to ask if there's anyone here who already got their eligibility letter from the NBV even without experience?

I got my license year 2009 and I only had a 3-month training experience in a hospital. Currently, I'm a nurse volunteer at the Philippine Red Cross.

Thank you very much!
